Title: Well, sailing season's over.
Post by: Oogly50 on September 12, 2009, 04:40:39 PM
At the beginning of the summer, it started out with a call from a family friend who asked if I wanted to sail lasers with his son every saturday...   After about halfway through the summer, his dad asked me if I wanted to sail with him in the C scow on Sundays and Wednesdays in the local regatta's.  http://www.melges.com/images/page/homepage/C_01.jpg
It was fantastic.  Every race we raced, we would come in the top 3, including many 1st place races.

Word quickly got around that I was a great crew, and I started getting up to 3 or 4 calls every Sunday from random sailors on our lake who needed me.  Everyone I raced with got into the top 3 places.
Everyone called me Lucky as a nickname, and I guarantee half the people I sailed with can barely remember my real name.

So today, I was at a friends house.  David Lynch (The owner of the ENTIRE lynch car dealership chain) called me this morning when I was still at his house, and my mom didn't bother to call me.  So I get home and David Lynch is leaving a message about how he needs a crew to sail the final race with him today, as it'll be the last one of the season and he wanted to get out there.

I pick up the phone and call him back to find that he still had no crew, so I rushed over to his house (which is 1/16th of a mile away from mine) and quickly helped him rig the boat.  Within minutes we were out on the water.

It was the final race, but we got 1st place (in the race) and Lynch told me that I would grow up to be an amazing sailor some day.  I'm 14, and have only been sailing for a couple of years.

I love sailing more than any other hobby or sport in the world.  Just being out on the lake with Mr. Lynch gave me complete happiness, and so now I rap up my summary of this sailing season saying "It was a pretty darn good run."

Cool, I sailed Lasers and Penguins awhile back. Those Ragatta's can get very competitive. I was always crew in the Penguins also.

And can't say I ever won a race either. I was just out there for the fresh air I guess. BOOEY ROOOMMMMM! wha?

Favorite game we played in sailing class was. We each would have a dozen tennis balls. Sail head on at each other and open fire. good times,

 good times. :D

That's pretty cool, years ago when I was racing various one designs, pintails, FD's , 470's etc. I saw a scow go screaming across the lake on a plane...had never seen a mono go that fast.

Always wanted to sail one but they weren't common in Michigan, you in Wisconsin?

Yea I'm in wisconsin... they're pretty popular here.

The only model I've seen here is the C scow, but I really want to sail an A scow.  Those things are about 2 or 3 times bigger than a C.
