Title: Disappointing aspect of Frame 2
Post by: Vulcan on September 13, 2009, 06:29:17 PM
I'm very disappointed at the lack of publicity around the fact that the 332nd Flying Mongrels got pack raped by a bunch of IL-2's.

And especially that Daddog got raped in his girly brewster by a hairy russian Il-2 :D

Nightmares would like offer our sympathies and condolences, oh and this:

Vulcan..... To soon. I digress though I would rather be flying an Il2 than a brewster anyday. Took 5 hard passes to finnally kill my Il2 alone and I was ignoring them for the most part just softening every ground target I could slide my guns over. The fifth pass sawed of my vert stab.

We have had better nights to be sure.
Frame 1 was not any better.

Hammering 4x.50's in to IL2's can be a chore. I actually flamed one, but died before he did.

Hoping for some revenge in Frame 3.

lol, to tell you the truth, it was just a perfect storm for me....every time i turned around there was a guy right in front of me and i just pulled the trigger. When a few guys got on my 6, i sort of just ignored them because they were not doing any damage to me. They ended up breaking off. The IL2 is a BEAST. Anyway, that was the most fun ive had in an FSO in a long time! <S> to everyone involved!

I'd be curious what convergence range was being used, as even 4x.50cal should be sufficient to put an Il-2 down with one good pass. Won't be able to rack up 6-7 of them because of the small ammo load in the cowl guns, but IIRC the Brewsters use the same .50cal as the American Iron, and I've never had problems dropping Il-2s even in an FM-2 (as long as I can avoid overshooting because of that stupid rapid pitch-up/pitch-down stick stir maneuver). Then again I rarely fire at anything outside 200yds.

I have my convergence set at 275 and will start firing when the icon changes from 400-200. I got one Il2 aiming at his wings then bigr put one big bullet in me and I was done. Thought the brewster could take a hit or 2  before being knocked down. I guess not from whatever the Bigr's Il2 was shooting.

Flushed

Ain't that the truth. :uhoh

The B-239 isn't fast enough to tackle the Il-2.  You need airspeed to stay out of the reach of its 23mm cannons.

Well, sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield; sorry if we disappointed you Vulcan.   :)

It was an intense few minutes, on this end at least. I'm not sure of the exact numbers but this is what Ghosth and I saw when we got to the field.

So Ghosth and I (plus two other squaddies) dove in on  the field, to start the furball at 21 to 4 odds.

So a big <S> to the (+)Precision, Freebird$, and Nightmares, you're NOE attack on A4 was a complete success. I hope we do better next time!

I'll admit it was fun to attack with the Nightmares , Freebirds , and us at Precision . We went in together and it paid off . It was a long flight but worth it in the results . Thanks everyone for the fun .

Quick question Anaxogoras. Where do you go to get the log showing information from frame two for each pilot.

The IL-2's were all on the deck turning tight, kinda like a big giant thatch weave with 23mm cannons.

And Baumer, I wasn't disappointed in you - I was disappointed in the lack of ribbing.

Some of you guys are soooo serious.

Thanks Vulcan, I know you were just giving us a hard time.

I know how it goes, some days you've got mad skillzzz, an others you're just fodder, I can take the ribbing. <S>

Your post gave me a chuckle Vulcan.  :aok

I think my reply was a little lack luster because I had just finished dealing with some other FSO unpleasantries behind the scenes. The joys of players who can't mind their manners. ;)

That is an amazing sortie by red959 Tuk. Five IL2's and an I16 in a Brewster. Wow.

Pack-raped..................

By IL2's............................ .....

Sax that many D3A1's would be scary especially if you got saddled by one cause its only a matter of time before the rest hop on then then nibble you to death with their TWO 30 CAL mg's!!

Actually, it WAS scary. Especially when you consider there were only ten of US.
