Sorry but I disagree completely....
The new T.E. is way better than the previous versions. This interface is actually easy to work with once you figure it out. I would never have even attempted a terrain with the old version.
If you want a random terrain texture just use the spray feature in some sort of software.

This took an hour to create...

Its not random but it shows you how easy it is to place terrain. This was originally the .elev file which was converted to 16 color grayscale. The bucket function has a setting that lets it color a range of shades. In other words it will fill as long as the shade falls within a defined range. This will keep your workload down when finding the areas it missed. If your using a flat terrain just find any picture that is random. Then convert it to 16 color grayscale, or limit the colors to a certain number. Use the bucket function and fill with colors at first, then figure out what RGB value goes where.

Thanks for sharing but the comments do nothing to answer the first question
Is the control missing elements? (its easy...yes or no)...
If it is not missing elements than where are the functions described in the tutorials?
-
No it is not missing anything, and I believe you are reading the tutorial for the old editor, a totally different setup that did include those things. They are not necessary with the new version of the TE and how it works.
-
Thanks,
And I would find out how it works how?

Trial and error for now....
Some of its been explained already in various threads, there is also a readme file in the T.E. file.

This is what we were given with the new version. Read it over and try stuff out. Any questions, just ask here.

That is word for word from the new T.E. Readme.
Edit: Also, in any thread that I've started since the new T.E. came out, I've tried to pass on any information I've picked up, so that fellas like yourself can find info more easily. Good luck and Warning-it's addicting.

P.S. I would never even claim to be an expert on any of this, I just know what it's like to have to hunt for info. There are however, many guys on here that really know their stuff, so if you ever have questions, post back in this forum. Questions here pretty much always get answered by the guys in-the-know. They've been mucho help to me.
