That was exciting...well the last few minutes anyway. I wasnt to impressed with them up till the last 5 minutes. Then they exploded. Lotta luck...but I'll take lucky.

Bills have more heart, but were unlucky in this game.  I hope they have better luck for the rest of the season.

Never discount the importance of special teams play!

And another thing:

After the game, what's with Suzy Kolber having to chase Tom Brady off the field just to ask one simple question about the game?  WTF? Tom, you're at your home stadium so it's not like you have to catch a flight or anything.  Was he blowing her off on purpose?  I would think with the track history of the Pats with female sports reporters, they'd be a little more sensitive to how they interact with female media.

Any red blooded American male would run away from that hag.  Bills impressed me.They came to play. But for one bad choice on that kick return, they more than likely would have won that game.

I'm completely baffled at this new rule about maintaining control of the football after landing in the endzone..

They wasted an unGodly amount of time reviewing that last reception when it was clear the guy had control of the ball going down.

Used to be that contact with the ground couldn't cause a fumble.. has this changed?

Seems like a stupid rule.

Anybody know where it came from?

I seem to recall from a long time ago a discussion about when the ground can cause either a fumble or an incomplete.

Basically if you're effectively stable (you can walk/run/stand) and you catch the ball, merely hanging on to it long enough to prove control is enough to call it "complete".  But if you're diving, you must maintain control of the ball through contact with the ground because "control" isn't assumed until something else happens (the next step, getting both feet down inbounds, getting hit, etc).

In the endzone, the question becomes whether control plus dropping the ball either equals touchdown or incomplete.  They decided that once again, you must prove you actually have control of the ball in the endzone for it to be a touchdown, so you must keep the ball through the next event.  If you're diving, the proof that you have control is if you can hold on to the ball through contact with the ground, no different than having to maintain control while getting both feet on the ground inbound for a catch near the sidelines.

It makes sense to me, and it closes what would otherwise be a blank area in the rules.

Thanks for the info.  One of the events last night had the guy landing with both feet down first.. ball still in control, then hitting ground and ball coming a little loose.    I don't remember if the one ( raider ) ,that the TD was reversed,  landed on his feet first, but the ball came totally loose after hitting the ground.

Looking at the films, both had full control of the ball before hitting the ground.

I think they look to make sure the ball isnt moving around under the player to call it a complete pass.

As for taking it out of the endzone and trying to be a hero, that cost them the game.

The "ground can't cause a fumble" rule is a little odd as well seeing as how the ground can cause a fumble.  :D  If a player is running all alone then falls down and loses the ball, it's a fumble.  Since he wasn't touched down by an opposing player the ball is still considered live.  Also, if during a tackled the ball is the first thing to hit the ground and it's knocked loose before a part of the player's body touches, it's also a fumble.

Witnessing the brain drain first hand, (Of which I am very much a part  :uhoh) I found a little slice of western New York in Washington DC and attended the game last night.  Bills jerseys all around, (though too many 81's for my liking) Labatt Blue (tough to come by in DC!) and wings.  Still paying for the Blue at 1 pm :lol.  The bar even had the somewhat annoying "shout" recorded from Ralph Wilson playing.

It was the closest thing to being at the stadium that I've experienced, and was incredibly fun.  The place was going NUTS for most of the game, and indeed the Bills were playing their hearts out.  Then an overwhelming sadness overcame the place as we witnessed our beloved team manage to screw up yet another game to an unnecessary and ultimately stupid play.  Another season to look forward to  :(

At least I've found a sweet place to watch em lose  :aok

<-has Drew Brees on his fantasy team. 50 points baby!

As for this game...the Pats are the better team on paper but the Bills put their heart into it.

Was pulling for Bills last night. Was also pulling for Raiders in second game. I can't wait til N.E. plays N.O. later in the season.   :devil
