I want a Glostor Meteor...PLEASE. That's a bird that I've never seen modeled in a game before. And it's not like it's an uber-plane either.
Come on...you know you want to... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I always liked "Jet Day" in Warbirds. Once every three weeks they let the Me 262 out of the hangar.
Now what would have made it more fun, and kept down the incessant whining from the flag-waver virtual-patriot types, would have been the introduction of the Meteor and the P-80 to give the Me 262 a good fight!

If we are looking for a jet with most right to be modeled, I think the answer is rather obvious – it is the 262.
It was a high priority plane, it was there in the particular time period, and it was there in numbers.
Gloster Meteor would enter the He 162 category.
P-80 ? Yea, right. Along with Go 229 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hristo,
The Meteor Mk1 entered service at the same time as the Me 262, in Autumn 1944. It was used in quite abit by 616 Squadron against V1 doodle bugs...
(now there's an idea...Launch them from bases at other countries...unguided..Hmmmmmm)
But back to my point...
The Meteor has just as much right to be included into the AH plane set especially as...
1. I've never seen it done.
2. It's NOT an uber-plane, it was barely better than the piston aircraft of the time
3. It's not the most common aircraft in WW2, but it's not amazingly rare either, fit's in with the set now.
4. It's British. Hurrah!!! (alright, so I like it for the last point (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif))

Jets = RPS or Jet Arena.

I posted this idea in another thread, but I'll repeat it here. If we ever get so-called "uber-planes" like the Me-262, Ta-152, Meteor, etc, lets limit each player to one sortie in them every 6 hours. Another way to do it would be to let each player get to fly 1 of them 1 sortie every 3 hours or so. This will keep the arena from being filled with them, as well as discourage HOs, as you would want to fly them as long as you could. Of course in the training arena they should be available all the time for practice.

Ohhhh gawwwwd, please no. No jets, leave em out. I never flew jet day, hated it and would hate to have a jet in the ma all the time.
-
Well, Pyro hinted at something in the main board to a post I made.
Rewards for successful flying. I asked for "speacial weapon prototype" aircraft to be in the game too, but only to be used as a reward for scoring high. I asked that you get a single sortie in one if you can achieve a certain score. After the flight you go back to the normal aircraft and start over.
He said they've been up to something similar and alot more complicated than that.
You may get your wish.
Hans.

Are you lot reading what I am typing? The Meteor was NOT AN UBER-PLANE. The later Mark Spits were superior aircraft.
I'm just saying that it would be an interesting addition to the current plane set. And if you don't like jets, then don't fly it. And it's not like it's going to get produced. I'm just offering a serious aircraft that could theoretically be played with the aircraft that are about at the moment. And it's alot less rediculous an idea than the Me 262 which would totally throw the balance of play.
And the idea that it's got limited use would limit the impact even further. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
And now for my other amazingly brilliant idea. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Introduce limited-use V-1 Doodlebugs. limit each country to say 4 an hour and let them only be launched from the largest 3 runway bases. They would be totally unguided except for the initial fuel loads, direction etc put in on the ground, just like real life.
Just imagine how fun trying to knock them out of the sky would be.
God I come up with great ideas (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/cool.gif)

Rufus, did Meteor ever fight an enemy aircraft in its whole carrier ?
As for 262 being ridiculous, well, you have to complain to Luftwaffe with that (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Apparently they didn't think that way when they started flying it.
-
Hristo, two YP-80A's did fly some combat mission. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
As was stated they were to be used to chase V-1's. Whether or not they ever intercepted them, I don't know. Personally, if this game ever gets Jets, I think it would have to be a totally seperate arena, such as WW2 1946 what if scenario room. However, we will need P-72's, P-82's,MB5s, and Spitefuls then too! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I think Hristo must be Stiglr or Ik undercover. Few others could so single-mindedly advocate the use of "his" aircraft of choice while simultaneously rejecting similar aircraft flown by his opposition.
Personally, I don't like jets much at all in WW2 prop sims...
...but had the Germans/Japanese been flying bombing missions over the US or UK, I'm sure Meteor and possibly the P-80 would have seen service against enemy aircraft.
There's a certain amount of happenstance in which aircraft saw combat and which just missed it, or were only used to chase down buzz bombs (e.g. - Meteor). Generally only the so-called realism nuts, most of whom ultimately have hidden agendas, can't seem to "see" this fact. And, of course, you can bet they won't be screaming for the 262 to constantly have their home fields under assault and to randomly experience engine fires and flameouts). (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
They should really be called the "we support realism when it gives us an advantage" crowd. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Actually the P-80's flew combat sorties in the Med. theatre.
-
Med. theatre ? In what year ? Against who ?
But not more than Ta 152, I guess (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
As for historical accuracy or realism, Me 262 should be here. Meteor and P 80 should be available only in training arena (g,d,r).
