The Asus P5Q was discontinued and from what I can find out, the P5Q-Turbo model is the new replacement. While I'm not a fan of VIA in the least, the firewire isn't something I'll be using, and I will replace the onboard sound with (most likely) an Audigy SE card. Reviews have been really mixed thus far, hence my hesitation to simply buy the blasted thing.
Skuzzy, if you had to pick a motherboard to build a new rig on, which one would you spring for? Price don't matter so knock yourself out.
XP SP2 will be the OS with an E7500 CPU and probably a Sapphire video card (EVGA has too many fan failures for me).

You have to understand, I cannot make any recommendations. However, I would not use an Intel CPU with any motherboard that did not have an Intel chipset on it.
Gigabyte has some motherboards that look promising. It would be best to hear from someone who has used them though.

The -Turbo model here (http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=vmCRVOru0T6aXX9O&templete=2) does use an Intel chipset (P45/ICH10R specifically), but also uses a JMicron controller for the PATA/SATA-on-the-go, and VIA controllers for both audio and firewire. However, I was under the impression that mixing Intel and VIA under any circumstances was akin to repeatedly hitting a jar of nitroglycerin with a hammer. Thus my concern, and request for your take on it. I'm not asking for a Skuzzy Stamp of Approval® (xmas present maybe?), just your opinion (i.e. I'd use it, avoid like plague, etc.). This will be a backup choice in case a first-class scrounge I know can't find a P5Q.
