I've been browsing the P-51 Encounter Reports on www.wwiiaircraftperformance.o rg and saw this one mention a "bubble canopy". I'll give Mr. Yeager the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't actually looking at Fw-190s. Was he just talking about the erla haube canopy?

Probably long nose 190s... I want one of those G suits and I want to push 60" at 30,000 feet.
-
They had bombNbailer in WW2 even, nice to see nothings changed!
:P

According to Caldwell's book Yeager's opponents were from III/JG26. It lost six Bf109's (two pilots killed) to 357th FG that day. AFAIK the combat debut of Fw190D (III/JG54) was 15 October.

Most likely the Erla haube.

NICE!

Warspawn, that's the normal Erla-haube in those pictures. ;)
Regarding the bubble canopy, here's a nice "what-if" drawing by Helmut Schmidt:

You so have it on the K4 and G14, already.

Odd, in-game didn't look as 'bubbled' to me as the pics; thought maybe the one shown there would give a bit better views...looking at the K and G14 on the ground I can see though that they're the same canopy. :huh

I believe it is called the Galland Hood (G14s and K4s)

I am pretty sure the Galland Hood is an earlier design.

It is the Erla Haube. The Galland hood is actually the clear head armour which can be seen in Warspawn's photo.
