Title: History Channel
Post by: W7LPNRICK on September 22, 2009, 04:39:39 PM
I watched a documentary yesterday which showed B-25's in low level flight in the pacific dropping parachuted bombs in order to get clear of the blast. This would be a great addition to the current ordinance packages.  :salute

Generally being a fan of all things 5th Air Force and low level B-25 strafer attacks in general I'd love to see parafrag bombs added to the game.  However I don't they would really be that effective at all.  They were designed to shred soft targets, personnel, parked aircraft, etc.  They were small, light fragmentation bombs.  I don't think they would really be very effective without a significant change to the types of targets that are available at airfields.  If you could cluster them together I suppose they may be effective at town busting... I don't have the info in front of me but I think they only had about 20-25lbs of explosive in them.

Here's a couple pics!   Like the idea too, but I've been told its a no way no how deal... Bummer!
I'd like to see a group (from all sides) of players that regularly use B25, A20, C47, P38, and P39s get together for a regular meet and smash in the MA... That would be cool!!!     Oppose if you dare!!!

RC

They used little ones!

They used big ones too, check the size of the blast in the background, definately a demo bomb!!
I've read that 500lber's were the upper limit for the parachute method.. But delay fuse was available for all!!!

Well you can do it all ready! just use the 100lbs. bombs and come in level at 200 feet and 250 mph piece of cake.

I could see it useful against GVs with no armored tops (Wirbles, Osti, M16, M3, etc)

I would think they would be useful for hitting towns and ground vehicles, just like cluster bombs.  Would be cool too if we'd get cluster bombs as an ordnance option as well.
