68Hawk, I KNOW YOU HAVE A !@$%@#%@#%@# event tonight, you've told me 50 frikkin times in EVERY arena, and I cant even squelch you, ENOUGH!

Why cant you squelch him?

Would that happen to be the pink text? The CMs use that now to announce events to all the arenas from the SEA. I don't believe you can squelch those unless you're in the SEA with the person transmitting.

It was introduced around the same time as the new terrain...a bit after, I think. CMs will announce their event about half an hour before it starts, generally.

you mean some will ........

others will announce about every 15 minutes up to 3 hours prior sending 5-6 lines each announcement

I guess that could get bothersome or distracting for some.......

as for me I tend to pay more attention to what Im doing rather than sit around reading the text buffer

I dont think anyones bashing the CMs........ they arent doing anything now that they havent always done.........

the only difference is in the past they would have to go to every arena individually and announce it on 200...... now they can announce it to every arena simultaneously to every player regardless of tuning 200 or not

so I guess some people arent accustomed to seeing the announcements made all the time if they never tuned 200...........

or maybe its that horrible pink color

If it had just been a couple of times it would have been no problem  but this was regular all thru the night, even going on about practise. Now thats great for you guys that enjoy those things but I'm sure just a couple of reminders would have been enough.

I've never seen them announce it 50 times. Once or twice about about 30min before the event is the most i've ever seen. They're just trying to encourage the event, thats all. nothing to lose sleep over!

its no worse then people recruiting on 200, I just ignore it because I'm too busy either dying or killing someone!  :D

The Announcement channel is not meant to be spammed, if it was announced more than 2 times, I will have a discussions so all CM's are aware.

I did not see it, but I logged on after the snapshot had started.  There is no reason it cannot be announced more than 2 times.  I would think once at a half hour before the event starts, then at 15 minutes, and again at 5 minutes.

CM's are just trying to get a turn out to make the events fun, if it happened 8 or 10 times, then yea it could be annoying, but it is just text, I miss most of what comes up on text myself, but thats just me.

It was announced several times including announcements for practice. It was not to a point of being bothersome to me at all. I understand these folks would like to make sure that everyone has a chance to participate in the events. No matter how many times something like this is announced there will always be the one who says "I didn't know about it".  :D

Personally I really appreciate the guys and gals that give so much of their time to put these together and bring them to fruition.

QFT in its entirety............

I have to admit after about the 15th time it was posted....... I did see 2 guys talking about it one saying something along the lines of "hey that sounds like fun, wanna go do it" the other saying something like "sure lets go"

so that means the announcements got at LEAST 2 more people to go fly in the event...... so it does have a positive effect in making people aware

Maybe the OP has OCD and HAS to read everything in the chat?  I could see it bothering somebody with OCD.

reasonable... Should clarify, I like 68's ok, fun folks to fly against, had I the time, prolly fly in snapshot thingie...but I usually have like 90 minutes to splatter my blood in various patterns each night--when this event occurs, it's like walking down the midway at a circus, with a barker trying to get you to pay up and see the 2 headed wolf boy in the tent....for ME, quite annoying after a point. it's been going on for awhile now. i see it almost every time there's an event. it could be annoying, but it's not to me really.

it's a good way for them to get things out...and i can understand them repeating it, as sometimes someone may have logged in late, or may have been in the midst of a fight, and not read it........

I have a question.  Why is it I see quite a few screen shots here where text is max size?  I'm serious.  Last thing I want to look at is a bunch of, mostly useless info covering my screen. I figure if someone needs to get my attention that badly, they will say something on range.  Just curious in the logic of doing that I guess.

It should be noted the "spamming" helped get a 150+ turnout.  Pretty dang good for a Snapshot.

Max size? You mean the text buffer enlarged past the 3-line standard? Many people toggle that back and forth to read things in the past...

Good for the guys who get involved with these things, for those that don't just a few of these messages would have been enough. The screenshot BJ posted was just one time these messages appeared multiple times throughout the evening, the odd one liner wouldn't be bad but each time it was a similar fashion.

You need more than two announcements.

Players are busy, just loging in, not paying attention, etc, etc.

Looks like 68Hawk was announcing like before the CM's had the "everybody" channel.

One announcement at 30, 15, 10, and 5min is more than reasonable, so 4 as opposed to 2.

With only two you will have many players miss 'em and not fly the Special Event that they might have had they caught it.

(my worthless 2 cents)

For my last clinic I refused to use the announcement feature, primarily because of the complaining it may cause.

The CMs are stuck, they need the attendance to make these events work and can only get the attendance by frequent messages. Frankly, if a message doesn't hit someone when they are in the tower they are highly unlikely to do so after they finish that flight.

Picture that screen shot going on for 30-45 unsquelchable minutes....if ya haven't got enough guys after all that, ya never will. I appreciate the eagerness, but there are limits..I can squelch 200...I can squelch squeakers...can't squelch range, can't squelch country, nor CM's when I'm not flying in their scenario

I personally could not care less if it came out once or 45 minutes worth. I try to watch whats going on around me, not what is being said in three lines of text, but I can appreciate those of you that do try to read every bit of wisdom that is put out on text, so all I was getting at is that my my event will not be overly advertised, with twice about the limit.

Some I just don't understand. Like I said earlier I have no problem with it. Maybe they could put a check box in setup to ignore Scenario Announcements or something.

Folks can check it to turn off or leave it in the default (default should be announcements on).

I guess I should clarify my stance a little better.

I know when FSOs, Scenarios, Snapshots and KOTHs are and what days they fall on.   MOST everyone who has at least 6 months into this game KNOW the same thing.   Of course, a minority of the players don't (as to be expected), but at the rate that some of these messages fly across the screen, is showing at the minimum "desperation".

I've assisted/sent people to events that I don't participate in.   I help people 99% of the time in this game, unless you cross me.   Quite a few players have done this and they're non-existent to me.   They can hide under their rocks, throw stones at opportune times and I'll watch from above while they twist and turn with a con on their 6.   You made your choice, live with it.   But I've been at this for over 7.5 years and still learn to this day.   I rarely squelch new folks, unless the questions are answered, but they still ask the same thing over and over.   Most do the the chickenchit Alt+F4 thing which shows their own lack of interest in helping.   I've helped MANY people in this game and don't give a damn about "credit".   I get that satisfaction in seeing what they've become or how they improved themselves over time and applaud them.

WMLute, AKDogg and others know I don't participate in KOTH and they've been told why in the past.   I've never met Lute (have met Dogg) but aside from squaddies, Lute and SkyRock are the closest people to "friends" I have.   We can get pent up aggression at losing, but we KNOW it is strictly fierce competitiveness.  I've met SR and not a shocker, no issues, just a handshake to solidify the friendship.   Like those two, I mean what I say and say what I mean.  They're is no "backstabbing", no "hidden agenda", no "false front".

Everyone in this game has faults, but most are too proud to own up to them.  I have just one:   I don't dance unless I hear music.   Two people who quoted my responses have proven this already in this thread.   I've NEVER said anything bad about SunBatt ever, to be honest.   I know, because if I did, I wouldn't be typing this.   I now ignore JG54 and still somehow get a few of them to chime in, unprovoked.

Now, to my squadmate Bj229r's Original Post.   I was the one that pointed this out on squad vox on the nights I know of.   I tried squelching the CM until the Event started, unsuccessfully.   We were in a good capture attempt and the text buffer was flying by fast.   Yes, the messages were excessive and they were NOT even 10 minutes apart.   They were 5 minutes apart for 45 minutes, which come on, is excessive.   9 times?  5 lines per "message".

If this happened again without me being on, as I've flown on 3 occasions in the last week and a half, then something needs to be addressed.

I might even have another solution.   If people are CM's, do NOT allow them to be squelched in the SEA's, but elsewhere, give us that power.  Because what happened on a couple of occasions WAS spam and needs to be addressed.

Sorry for the long post, but certain things needed to be addressed in a civil manner.

No, just putting it all out there and explaining "who I am" and "why I have posted the way I have in this thread".

Last month I decided to give the Friday KOTH a go.  I asked a couple squaddies on-line if they wanted to fly the KOTH with me.  One squaddie, who had flown AH for 4+ years, mentioned he had never flown a KOTH before and wasn't sure he wanted to try it.

I got 'em to fly it and he absolutely loved it.  I imagine he'll fly every KOTH he can from here on out.

The announcements are for players who are new and are unaware of the events, AND for players that, while they might know about them, have never given them a try.

It is very much like a commercial and the CM is trying to entice players to give the event a try.

I know when I used to announce events I spent a lot of time describing the event as opposed to just saying it was about to start.

"King of the Hill is starting in 30 min in the Special Events Arena"
"King of the Hill is a last playing flying tourney"
"Everybody rolls the same plane and fights until one plane is left standing"
"The winner of that round picks a plane and the fight starts again"
"Have to win three rounds to win King of the Hill".

or...

"SnapShot starting in 30 min in the Special Events Arena"
"A SnapShot is a historical recreation of an actual WW2 battle"
"(Insert quick event description here)"

and so forth.

I would announce the event was starting, and then describe the event, and YES I was told by some players they were squelching me or to stop spamming the channel.

I would also add that event participation @ doubled when I announced like this.  SnapShots that used to have 20-30 players would have 60+.  (think my 'best' was @ 90 players) I ran many a Thur. SnapShot that had 40+ players in it which was unheard of.

I am a firm believer that just saying the event is about to start is not enough.  The CM should be able to describe the event so players new and old can decide if it is something they want to give a try or not.

I guess a happy middle ground would be for the CM to announce in the Lobby to ALL about the event time, then go to the individual arenas and describe the event on 200 for the players.  More legwork for the CM's but I believe that the CM should describe the event to help inform players about just what the event is.

Would it be possible to have the CM's create a quick, descriptive macro of the event, and be allowed to just .event 1 (i.e. 1 for snapshot, .event 2 for koth, .event 3 for FSO, etc, etc) in the lobby to have it flashed accross the arenas?

(my worthless 2 cents)

Is the announcement supposed to be a reminder or a solicitation?

Can the event be on the MOTD and the announcement just be 2 messages?

A reminder. If we wish to advertise we will use different methods such as MOTD.

I guess I should clarify my stance a little better.

Tolerance- a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one's own.

Intolerance- lack of toleration; unwillingness or refusal to tolerate or respect contrary opinions or beliefs, persons of different races or backgrounds, etc.

The pigs are an awesome group of guys and I think of it more as comradery reguardless how many kills are landed.  It wouldn't be near as fun without some conversations and a wtg or oink after flying.
