I eliminated Boise State because of their schedule. If they played a SEC, Pac 10 or a big school schedule they they wouldn't even be considered top 20 let alone top 10. Boise next opponents; Cal-Davis, Tulsa, Hawaii, San Jose State, Idaho and Utah State. Cincinnati hasn't played anyone to rate a top 10.

THIS is the only valid post so far. Ole Miss, Cal and PSU were playing above their heads and were exposed. It's good to know someone else watches football and the competition.

OSU in the top ten NEXT WEEK? That would be ridiculously stupid. What would the basis be to move them to the top 10? A win at home to Illinois? Ohio State may well have only one loss by November. You think Wisconsin is going to beat them at home? Possible not probable. Surely your not suggesting that Indiana, Minnesota, New Mexico State or Purdue are going to beat them? Believe me, I am a Big Ten guy. I cheer any conference team that beats OSU or Michigan. But I am not betting on that quartet of dogs.
Now as far as Navy versus Ohio State. Alabama vs Va Tech. First game of the year. OSU should have won easily. They didn't. It was a sloppy win for the first game of the year. Alabama should have won easily. They came from behind and pulled it out in the fourth quarter. I think your over ranking Va Tech. VT is not that good a team this year. Their big win is against Nebraska. Nebraska may not even win the Big 12 north. And I don't think that either of us is calling Alabama into question.

.....Cincinnati and Boise State suck and are in weak conferences. LSU would EASILY beat either team.

And Vatech, Choklahoma, and USC have lost. In fact USC lost to Washington while LSU beat them.
I don't understand your logic, but I know that many others feel the same. Maybe it's BCS Ring envy.

Penn State.

Boise State shut down an Oregon team that beat Cal 42-3, also beat a good Fresno State team.

Vatech stuck with Alabama throughout that game, while beating a talented Miami team. LSU doesn't impress me, watched their game with Washington and Miss. State, they didn't look like a team that would be in the top 2 in their division in the SEC. While I say that, Ole Miss lays an egg at South Carolina.
its crazy :lol
-
BSU had one difficult game on their entire schedule. Their schedule is one of the weakest, IF NOT the weakest, in the Top 30.

At least you have them rated ahead of U$C.
I guess you have to point out something bad about them.
I doubt if USC had squeeked by Washington in that game that you would have them lower than 3rd.
-
:rofl :aok
Now comon! I conceeded your point earlier in the week. Yes OSU can be in the top 10 next week as you said! lol.

You conceeded by saying "highly unlikely" ?? ;)
Since Iowa came through and all is good in the world, I won't mention it again. :aok

Ya in hindsight, "Highly unlikely" bad choice of words.

Fudgums; "Vatech stuck with Alabama throughout that game, while beating a talented Miami team. LSU doesn't impress me, watched their game with Washington and Miss. Your right on. To me it seems like the competition level is down this year overall. It seems like some of the top teams are getting a pass because there are no real teams to replace them.
Some of the top ten teams this week that I think are overated. Boise State, Cincinnati, Ohio State. Va Tech has talent but they really hadn't played that well until the Miami game. OSU will have trouble with Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa. Cincinnati and BSU in the top ten?

Mississippi lost thursday night....
alska hawk-
Idk if competition level is down, but its up, every team seams to be competitive this year, except for florida state....
-
Maybe its just that football started in September this year instead of August. Play seems a bit sloppy for end of September. Texas had trouble against Texas Tech. Florida.. Tennessee. Florida State..And so on.
-
Personally, I'm a Vols fan in Big 10 Country. But I see Iowa winning the Big 10 this year.

I hope so. I live in Iowa City. Iowa has a top notch defense and the offense is getting better every week.
-
"Idk if competition level is down, but its up, every team seams to be competitive this year, except for florida state.... " I was thinking more of the sloppy play by some of the top teams. It could be because they stated in September this year instead of August. Doesn't matter the better teams usually get it together in October.

Even more truer to the point is, if you're GONNA LOSE, within the 1st four weeks is the best time too.
-
Very true Masher! VT could be a beneficiary of just that.

They are a well rounded team and will rebound easily.

That used to be a lot more important than it is now.
2007 - LSU lost to Arkansas on it's last game and then went on to win the SEC Championship and play in the NC game.
2003 - Oklahoma lost to Kansas St. In the Big 12 championship game and went on to play in a NC game
2001 - Nebraska got crushed by Colorado in their last game and went on to play in the NC game.
-
There are probably some examples of teams losing late and not making it to the NC. Penn State last year. 1 regular season loss.
-
The single most important thing is to be a media darling so that you will start ranked high, fall only a short distance when you lose, and rise like a p0rnstar through the ranks back into the top 10.
See OU, USC, OSU. :aok

Which is why the rankings are a joke to begin with.
-
Rankings at best are good guesses by supposed experts. However, since most of these experts IE; college coaches (and others) often delegate the responsibility of ranking the teams to an underling we end up with a very subjective ranking. Media hype, school name and too many things that have very little to do with prowness on the field end up dictating the ranking system. This is a long winded way of saying; Rankings are a joke. But fun for us college football fanatics to look and and discuss.
