Title: P-38... like a ballon...

 Is what it pops like when hit. Is this accurate? I mean you never read accounts of the 38 be considered a FRAGILE plane, or do you?

Even P-47 seems to be fragile in AH, with along other planes, so theres nothing new...
Its worse for P-38 when you consider that its a big plane for a fighter. (get top shot on it and its completely different to shoot at than Me109)

agreed fishu. The d-11 ive seen take a lot of punishment.. it usually dies when you shoot a wing off..never been able to shoot one down or see one fall from fuselage damage  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

All the Jugs can sustain a tremendous amount of damage.  In one of the weekend events busc got behind me in his 205 and absolutely hosed me down before my wingman saved me.  I lost one flap, both ailerons, one elevator, took a fuel hit, and lost 2 guns.  Whew.  Oh, and did I mention I flew 3 sectors back to base and deadsticked it to a successful landing?  Heh.  This was the D25 btw.  Oh, and a big <S> to Glue my wingy who saved me.

The F4U is almost as tough.  The Hellcat is pretty tough too, though not quite up to Jug standards in my experience.

And yeah Tac, when I get killed in the Jug it is almost always from losing a wing.  Sometimes I'll lose my tail completely, but only to cannon birds that get a solid burst in normally.

I shot off a D25s tail in a 2 sec burst form the A6M5s 2 MGs... Really wierd  but I got close like 200yds.

Not weird at all... a 2 second burst of MG's at close range will turn just about anything into confetti.

2 seconds is alot in machine guns terms round 30 bullets from both mgs on an A6M
