I heard Hawaii is warning New Zealand its going to be a big one but it does seem rather far even for a quake of that magnitude.

Most of my good friends in NZ live on the south island -- north island ought to shelter em well enough... :uhoh

Good luck North Islanders   :pray

Yeah woke up to the news while having bfast.

my hotel is uphill but just 3 blocks from the sea. I got all my things packed survival gear style (I guess coming from florida does help...canned food, water, camera...all in da bag!).

ETA 40 minutes 'till impact. They predict 1 meter high wave. Hotel has 4 stories high so we be ready as we can be.

Well, it killed some ppl in Samoa.. And now I'm hearing a US west coast advisory from the radio on Vancouver island... Huh, might be interesting... But I'm 300ft up from the water, so no worries for me...
Might make for some cool photo's tho...  Anybody hear a time bracket for arrival at the NW coast of US?

Last update I saw was Pacific wide tsunami alert cancelled.  40cm swell on the east coast of New Zealand, that's it.

Yep, it was no show well as swoop said 40cm....damn forecasters...when will they get it right..... I freshly waxed and all.

And for those of you who will jump on me for making light of this situation.... Very sad news for those in Samoa...one of our guys is off trying to find out info on family...He believes they will be fine but they have big families...and are a large community as a whole.

People where I live are waiting patiently to get waxed by a wave. We chuckle at the evacuation route signs....especially since some of them actually follow coastal roads.

Yeah, 9:30 - 10:00 PM Local, I'm far enough away from the coast for it not to "affect" me, but my CAP squadron CO has already called and put us all on standby, so, we'll see.

Yeah its sad to see what happened in Samoa. Nothing yet in NZ but the warning is still out (albeit downgraded).

I really worry about the marshall islands...their land is barely 5ft above sea level :(

though i guess by now they shouldve been affected and I see no news about it on the net or tv. hope it missed them.

I was just reading some news articles about this and in one of them it states that New Zealand records 14,000 earthquakes a year. No wonder they dont have dangerous animals.

Yeah, we get them all the time..only small shakers but there have been some good ones...especially lately...the last one even moved us closer to Aus. Auckland is surrounded with volcanoes about 50 of them...

The situation in Samoa is getting worse by the hour. It has even been declared as a major disaster.

Nah, they don't need to, they just replace them from Japan anyway.

Yeah I've got family in Fiji, they're all good though.
