Do you know about any of the planes or vehicles you are wishing for? Do you bother even to do a little bit of research before you make your wish post?
I mean seriously, how hard is it to do a little bit of research? If you had bother to do some research in to the Amerika Bomber program, you would have found out that the Me 264 never progressed beyond the construction of 3 prototypes, all of which were destroyed in Allied bombing raids.
The other candidate for the Amerika Bomber project was the Ju 390 and that never went beyond the design table. In any event, the Amerika Bomber project was cancelled in 1944.

He's talking about the Ju390. Only 3 were made if I remember correctly, and all were prototypes. There was an alleged (by the Germans of course) flight across the atlantic that was supposed to have taken one over New York City. If its true, they should have taken bombs if they could instead of the alleged recon equipment.

The Ju 390 never progressed beyond the design stage and a prototype was never constructed and work stopped when the Amerika Bomber project was cancelled in September of 1944.
The Me 264 was another design that emerged from the Amerika Bomber project and 3 prototypes were built and all three were destroyed in Allied bomber raids. There has been a long standing rumor with absolutely no basis in fact whatsoever that one managed to fly close enough to the East Coast that it was able to see the NY City skyline at night.

The Ju 390 came along when intense effort and German wartime philosophy was still geared towards the use of medium bombers and fighter/bomber hybrids. As such, full resources were never really delegated to the project en mass. The Ju 390 basically was the Ju 290 airframe with extensions fitted into the wings to lengthen them and accommodate the added powerplants. Furthermore, lengthening of the base fuselage also took place in this new design.
First flight was recorded on October 20, 1943 with good results. The system performed admirably well for its size and was designated as the Ju 390 A-1. An initial order of 26 such aircraft were ordered into production only to see the project cancelled in the middle of 1944 in an effort to allocate resources and design time to other more pressing projects.
The idea of a transatlantic New York Bomber was an intriguing one. Obviously more of a psychological tool of terror than a practical effort, the Ju 390 was to hit at the heart of New York City in a way that the Luftwaffe shown it could do to Londoners in England during the war. The end result might have been mixed, as it could have either demoralized the American war effort if the bombers were truly effective or strengthen their resolve.
A disputed flight of a test Ju 390 reaching New York is said to have occurred but there is evidence for both sides to accept or dispute this claim. Nevertheless, the 2 versions that were built made the 32 hour flight most definitely possible. The fact that such an aircraft could approach through the Atlantic undetected leaves some to disagree with such a feat.

I doubt it would be undetected, but most likely the Americans would assume it was a patrol aircraft and that it couldn't possibly be German. As for the effect of bombing NY, I bet it would have been a little of both. And unless I'm mistaken the Bronx had some factories there that might have posed as military targets. But my guess is it would have been more of a statment that Germany wasn't beaten and was still very much in the war.

I have read that the Japanese and Germans did have a plan to bomb US cities in 1942. A number (20ish I think) of very long ranged H8K2 'Emily' flying boats were to meet up with German cargo subs in the Gulf of Mexico and then conduct operations against US industrial cities in the mid west and south. The plan was dropped due to changing war conditions such as the Japanese loss at Midway.

Not only that, but I imagine any sort of permanent or semi-permanent base of operations in the Gulf of Mexico would have been sitting ducks to defense units on the continent.

Oh, I am sure it wouldn't have lasted long once it started, but it probably would have been a bit of a surprise the first time.

Yes, and what would it have really done? Slowed us down and thats about it. Americas industrial capacity far exceeds that of Japan and Germany. Maybe not both combined, but we had England and Russia to help with Germany. And it probably would have left Portland, Seattle, Denver, New Orleans, Pittsburg, and all the other manufacturing cities untouched unless they were getting hammerd by US bombers and planed a one way ride.
