If even his RIP thread is done with light humor then I imagine this guy must have been a fun and good guy.

Rodders was one of the guys that made AHII special to me. I can only imagine the rest of the Raw Prawns feel the same way, he will be missed greatly by us all, he always loved a laugh and was always willing to help. His passing has hit me hard.
<S> Rodders

Rodders was always a laugh even many years ago when he first became a prawn.
He was always excited to see you too, even if he had seen you 3 hours before.
I am sure where ever he is, he is having a laugh.

A true gentleman who made me feel very welcome in the Prawns.
We mutually bemoaned the ability of wives to spoil and ridicule virtual flying and doubted the abilities of each other's cricket teams.

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee"

In all the years I've played Aces High I've only ever meet 2 players in real life....Rodders was one of those.
He lives down south from me. 100 or so miles away and he had to attend a seminar in Brum (Birmingham). He actually made a point of dropping in when passing my home town on the way up. As these things go it's like a gay blind date meeting for the first time. We both felt a little uncomfortable in this situation but got past it and even had a laugh about it. He was around 6 feet tall, a little stocky in his early 50's. In his prime and even today he had the stature that would make you think twice before taking him on but Rodders didn't exhibit an ounce of malice about his persona. He struck me as an amiable chap and all about the good times. A fun bloke.
I enjoying him regaling some of his memories as a chieftain tank commander. Working his way to that position from a driver having spent time in every position in the crew. There's something to be said about that right there. From the ground up so's to speak. A quality in application we can all admire.
John (Rodders) did confide in me about his up and down health issues which had affected him and had repercussions in his home life for some years. It's very very sad that he's gone but this torment is over. I wish him well as he travels in the light. :salute
My deepest sympathies to his wife Maggie, his children and his grand child that he clearly loved dearly...I am sorry for your lose and the sad days ahead.
-
Very distressing to hear this, particularly as only last week he was most concerned with his Mum's health.
A reminder how fragile life is.
RIP Mate :salute

sad news I met Rodders at an airshow on the Isle Of Wight 2003-2004 as his mother lives on the island. He shared the same passion for WW2 themed stuff as most of us do.
He was our ever reliable goon Driver back in Fighter Ace and one of the early members of The Few. Unfortunately one of the only members I've had to eject.
Condolences to his family and I wish him god speed in the after life. I've sent a message to his other close friend who he talked with alot.

Words cant express the sadness at learning of Rodders passing.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Prawns, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and squadie. Darn good fellow, and a heck of a nice guy.
I thought there were a few things certain in life, the sun will come up, the sun will go down, and if a Vbase if flashing, Rodders will be there defending it, and it will stay green. Sadly this shows that even the things in life that we think are certain, are not.
The Raw Prawns ,the Rooks, the AH community as a whole have lost a good friend.
Thoughts and prayers

So unexpected,, i hope it was peacefull.
I spent alot of time on the game during the day when i was looking after my boy at home for 2 years and would knock about with rodders alot. He was so proud of his grandchildren and loved his wife mags dearly. He would talk so fondly about his plans to come to Oz, and the big Prawns BBQ he planned to hold,, i wasnt gonna miss the plane for that one lol.
A gver in RL Rodders was invaluable in his M8, and brought equal dedication to the other ground options. The founder of the SPS (Special Prawns Service) was allways a source of great humour and adventure. In the true spirit of teamwork and comradery Rodders was allways humble enough to grab the goon, if he hadnt already.
Ill miss you old pal, take care, goodbye and may fair winds greet your wings.

What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. Albert Pike
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Samuel Clemens
To the family and Prawns, may your tears be those of joy that the night has ended by the emergance of the dawn and the sight of blue skies shall forever be before Rodders.

I'm shocked and saddened,,, he was always a good guy,,,even tho i didn't know him well at all, he was always friendly, AH is a lil smaller with out him a true gentleman.
-
To say that this is something of a shock is an understatement. I've been AWOL for the majority of this year... so it has been some time since I've spoken to Rodders.
Rodders, your amusing squad chatter will be missed. :salute
RIP Rodders. Your jokes, accent and friendly attitude will be sorely missed.
<S> to a family man and gentlemen .
Godspeed, mate.

Though I didn't have much of a chance to get to know him, I did have plenty time getting to know the other Rook fliers who were around his age and experience. Just as sad to see Rodders go as any. I do recall flying with him a few times, and I can't in any honesty say anything bad about him. May he rest in peace.

More info on Rodders
This is from Rodders daughter
"Please could you let all of your aces high buddies know all your thoughts and good will wishes are very welcome, but unfortunately my dad passed away the same day as his mother, we are finding it very hard to talk about but i will be in touch again soon.
If you do see dad appear on aces high don't worry it will probably be my son aka. grandads co-pilot. But before i go i think its only fair that you know dad ironically passed away in an air ambulance :-)"

Wow, horrible for the Rodders family.

Rodders was in "aussie" terms a "great bloke" :salute

Rodders was once a member of my squad The Blind Bats. As I understand it he was a tanker once in Her Magesty's Royal Army, hence the name 'rodder', to rod out the cannon barrel.
An enthusiastic and experienced player, always willing to fly the goon on captures. Was fun to hear him curse or rhyme in cockney english, even if we had to ask twice (or three times) what he was saying.
Very sorry to hear, my profound sympathy to his family. :salute

Some of you might remember me as JDJNR...I played and loved aces high as a rook for many years mainly in GVS. I met and respected many guys whilst I lived in the USA. I still keep in contact with some members and always will. Rodders was one of those guys I took an instant liking to and always respected. He played the game honestly and I have to think was the same in life. I never met him but this reminds me how precious life is...he epitimised the saying that a stranger is just a friend you have yet to meet...<S> my friend.JDJNR

I'm deeply sorry I had missed the news at the time. I rode with Rodders many times he was a standup guy and a class act. Always willing to step up and do what was needed.
