What is called when this happens in a 1vs1 fight:
Plane A is above and slightly in the rear hemisphere of plane B. Plane B is nose up (climbing quickly) and there's a possibility that A has a snap shot. If he misses, A might try to also go nose up and follow B, but because B is slower, he will have a snap shot opportunity on A similar to the one before. The position can reverse again and again until one is shot down.

It is a vertical scissors. In a rolling scissors, neither aircraft has a shot opportunity because they are not in the same plane of maneuver, that is, of course, assuming that you're not actually at the end game which should result in a shot opportunity. In a flat or vertical scissors both aircraft are essentially in the same plane and crossing flight paths. This offer shot opportunities.

Ahhhh, thank you. What's really unique about the vertical scissors compared to a rolling or flat scissors is the constant trade of shot opportunities. I did a bunch of duels with Sunbatt last night and found myself trying to prevent the vertical scissors for that reason.

because that single snap shot kills, and because it's much easier to just drop in behind the target and not trade shot opportunities if you're the K-4 pilot.

No, definitely not a rolling scissors. As mentioned above, in the rolling scissors there is no trade of shot opportunities.
Vertical is scissors is definitely a weak point in my flying.

What happens to some people in a vertical scissor fight is folks tend to tense up. When you tense up you affect your aim. Aim is multiplied in importance when you are tradding snapshots with another. He who aims best wins.
I tend to let myself relax by feeling like my hands and feet are doing all the work and I am just along for the ride. Almost like a co-pilot gunner.
Might sound odd but it works for me.
