Title: For consideration

Next time one of you staffers have no plans for a week I'd like to give this a chance.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD

June 1943:

With the Japanese and American fleets spent and rebuilding after the Guadalcanal Campaign the air battles around New Guinea and the Solomons are left to the land based air units of both sides.
New aircraft are replacing the war weary P-39s, P-40s, F4Fs, and A6M2s. In early 1943 the USAAF's P-38 and USMC's F4U-1 are starting to give the Japanese a mere glimpse of the ordeal by air they will be facing the remainder of the war. In an effort to stem the tide of the Allied advance through the Solomons and New Guinea the Imperial Japanese Navy has managed to replace many of their ageing A6M2 Model 21 Zekes with the A6M3 Model 22. Although the older Model 21 is still common and pressed into service. The Japanese high command sensing the disaster about to befall the Empire starts introducing Japanese Army Air Force Units to the theater in December 1942 with the arrival of the 11th Sentai and their KI-43 Hayabusas. They are soon followed in January by the 1st Sentai. The arrival of the 68th and 78th Sentais in the spring of 1943 brings real hope of countering the ever growing Allied aerial might with the new Ki-61. 1942 is over, gone are the names Sakai and Foss. There are new warriors with names like Bong, Boyington, Sugita, and Takeuchi, ready to take their places in history.

Well I'll need a staffer to run it and it would probably be a good idea if one of them looked it over real good ensuring it's playable.

You realize that A6M3s were little-to-no-faster than A6M2s? Barely 10mph. Their climb rate was not much better either. Putting in the 25mph+ faster A6M5 doesn't really represent it much. Then again, that's probably the only thing that would really compete with the F4us and P38s.

Just commenting for the sake of discussion.

Funny thing I wondered how long it would be before you showed up to pee on this.  :lol Yes Krusty I agree with you to a point. You know as well as I do that because of the light Japanese planeset subs have to be made. You also know to make a PTO setup palatable you have to do some balancing. Also I don't agree the A6M5 is the only thing that would really compete with the P-38G and F4U1. The Ki-61 is quite capable of handling both.

Far from "peeing" on anything. Saw the thread from the main forum list, was interested, clicked it, posted a reply.

You're quite right about the Ki61! I forgot it was that fast.

38G and Ki-61 ought to be a very interesting fight.

This is a great setup for learning how to fly the Tony.  Probably it's at a disadvantage against both the 38 and Corsair, but not a huge disadvantage, and we'll get two distinctly different types of fight against each of those planes.  Lots of fun for both sides.

Actually this setup P-38G/F4U1 vs A6M5/KI-61 is similar to the North Africa setup SpitV/P-38G vs C202/BF-109F/FW-190A5 that just ran IMO. The difference is now the Allies have the speed advantage and the Axis have the manuverability advantage.

Oldman, I am guessing, Sir, that this will be the setup you use for Oct 29th ? since Mr. Fork's setup is something entirely different?
