Title: The Worst Thing I ever Seen/Read
Post by: Warchief on October 13, 2009, 11:47:51 PM
I recently left the USAF due my inability to complete a PT Test due to injuries. I have been affliated with the military for my whole life one way or another(12 years active duty, 1 1/2 DEP, and 16-17 years dependent) . Most people here know someone who has either served in the military or is serving at this very moment. We all take the time to thank our vets because like myself and those we know we all did it by choice. The reason I am stating all this is read the article attached and make sure you have something near by to hit or kids are not in the room because you aint going to believe this. Due to the restriction on language here is what sort of happened while reading and watching the news video

I know how you feel but you should rethink your decision to post this due to forum rules and erase it before you get hit with the 'time off to think stick.'

I dont think Skuzzy or Hitech or Pryo will do anything. I could be wrong but it is a news story and yes I am stating an opinion of total disbelief but I dont think this is just that offensive.

Issues like this have gotten close to going to court in the past.

Fortunately, (historically) as soon as the press gets wind of it and the landowner's face gets plastered all over the airwaves, they tend to back down.  I see something similar to this happening in this instance...

Is this guy worse then a Marine O-4 running inside during retreat so he didn't have to salute for 40 seconds? People disrespecting the flag should face criminal punishment, if not just get the crap beat out of them.

Just wow. The day you can't fly your country's flag in your own country.... this attitude by management just saddens me. Obviously if somebody was living there, then they would have chosen by free will to live in the US. If they would be offended by the US flag, they'd also be offended by living in the US at all... and thus not living there.

Most people don't have a clue about flag code any more.  What is worse is most just don't care.

Hard to say on the legality.  Unless there is something specific in the lease agreement, I would think that this would be a violation of 1st amendment rights.

If that's the worst thing you've seen or read, then you've gotten off lucky.

I'd guess the press coverage will have the flags flying sooner then later.

Yay.  Home owners associations.   My friends and I call them Garage Nazis for all the inane rules they have because they have the idiotic idea that some tiny thing will lower property values.

I parked my truck facing the street once and we got a letter saying that if it was like that again they'd tow it.

It is sad that these people have to put up with crap like that.  However, the apartment complex is within its legal rights to ban all flags on their property, including the American flag.

Damn, that kinda sucks. I'll tell ya what though; returning from a mission getting back into the COP seeing the red white and blue as we pass the gate still held a unique feeling. I don't know how to describe it, but it feels kinda relief and patriotic at the same time.
Relief because I made it back to safe ground and see the symbol of why I am here. Patriotic because I knew a few folks from different companies that went out and didnt' make it back in one piece. The flag feels different to me when I'm in a hostile zone. It brings comfort to see it.

Probably O'club material though.

One thing I admire about the Yanks is the fact that they are proud to Americans, In the UK a good part of the population have no pride in their history or country.

Wow that hits a little close to home.  I fly my flag seven days a week.  Even  bought a cool solar powered light that shines on it at night time. It looks really nice.  I don't live in an apartment but we do have a home owners association. They better think long and hard before they make the mistake of knocking on my door and asking me to take it down. :furious  :salute

evicted from the apartments? That manager should be evicted from the country.

PC at its finest, but what chaps me is that is almost traitorous. If a person is offended by the American way of life or by this country's values then its time they pack up and check out the realestate over in Africa or Asia.

I don't have any words.......

I also fly one 365 days.  Along with Navy flag for my grandfather (who lives with us) and most recently (for me) an Army flag (no pics here at work to post with all three flying)

You can take it from house when you pry it from my cold, dead hand.

Hell I even fly one from my Jeep when we take our annual trip to Maryland on the 4th of July weekend with my grandpop.  Usually nothing smaller than 3' x 5'.

True, that. Did you know those little American Flag napkins and paper plates you see everywhere on the 4th of July are actually in violation of the flag code? I think even posters like that National Guard one posted in this thread are, as well:

The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed, or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

I parked my truck facing the street once and we got a letter saying that if it was like that again they'd tow it.

I'd send back a letter saying if a tow truck driver set one foot on my property he would get a warning followed by the potential use of lethal force, followed by a call to 911 to have them send a coroner.  But I live in TX and shooting people who set foot on your property with intent to commit a crime (stealing a car for example) has legal precedent.

Heck, some guy shot some burglars in his neighbors yard and the judge/jury decided it was a legal shooting :)

You'd lose in court.  There is a mountain of precedent with respect to HOAs enforcing the CC&Rs legally.  I know a woman who was evicted by the Sherriff after her HOA foreclosed on her home from not paying her HOA dues.  Her Mom had gotten extremely ill just after she was divorced, and she used the money to pay hospital bills and such.  Not saying I agree that Nazi HOA types (we all know them) should have that power, but they do.  Basically, without that legal authority, all the good things that HOAs were intended for would be unenforceable.

My guidance would be to read the CC&Rs very carefully before you decide to buy a property, because if there's a clause you don't like the sound of, don't buy the property.

Most HOAs are nothing but pencilnecks who have no life and no importance trying to think they are important.

#S# to your grandfather and all the rest who have served/are serving/those that will serve.

I fly two American flags at my house.  Unlike some of the others around here I have enough respect to take them both down before dark since I have no lights for them.

P.S. - Nice yard btw...what type of grass is that?

Most HOAs are nothing but pencilnecks who have no life and no importance trying to think they are important.

Without a doubt there are those that take their HOA duties to extremes, but the HOA is itself liable for being sued if it doesn't enforce its CC&Rs with vigor.  Like I said before, if you think you don't want the HOA police giving you grief over flags or turning a wrench on your truck in the driveway, don't buy the property.  The mountain of legal precedent supporting draconian HOA practices is a juggernaut.

I'd tell them to go take a hike up their alimentary canal where their head is. As long as there is no specific prohibition regarding it in the lease they cannot enforce potential offense situations that do not violate the law. If they did push for the eviction I'd make sure to hold on until the Sheriff arrived (months down the road) to enforce the eviction notice and have as many members of the press there to film it. That way they cannot continue to hold me to paying the lease or require that I pay early lease cancellation fees.

Failure to pay HOA fees is a violation of the CCR's. I seriously doubt that which way the vehicle faces in the drive way is a violation and would demand a quote including the page and paragraph in the CCR's that specifically does cover it. I did that when I got a nasty gram regarding oil drops (6 of them far less than an inch in diameter each) on my driveway. They backed off.

very good you do this, i think there is only 4 places where the government has actually put in writing where the flag will be flown 24-7 , that is FSK memorial, Fort McHenry, WW2 memorial, and the Capital :salute

We have a 20ft flag pole we put up last year. We live on a big hill and you can see it clearly at the bottom, nearly a 1/2 a mile away...sad we can't fly our own country's flag in our own country anymore...anyone who takes offense to it should not live here.

You are allowed to fly the flag 24/7 if you do a couple of things.  It must have proper lighting and it is an all weather flag.

I will live in a cardboard box before I live in a community with a HOA.

I work at a window & door company right outside of Philly.  You would not believe the whines I hear about HOA rules when customers call to talk about the type of windows & doors they can have.

I guess they should have read the HOA rules BEFORE purchasing the condo..............  If it's in the rule book, you are bound to abide by it.

Imagine that.  The news story stirred up the ire of a portion of the country and they lift the ban.  Hurrah America, where we have to pitch a fit to be able to do what we should have the right to do in the first place.  Still boggles my mind, some of the crap people try to pull in the name of PC'ness.
