Red Orchestra has a function were you can open up the hatches to get a better view. I was wondering if we could get something like that in AH2. If by some mirrical someone lands a hit in through the hatch, the crew inside of that compartment is killed. If an AP round goes through the hatch, then your screwed.....

You can do this by using the Page Up key on every tank except the T-34/85. Hit F10 to save it. Do the same for looking to the sides. I use it for all mine.

yes, but to look at the gauges, you have to go back to the originol view. I guess I'm asking for them to add it to the russian tanks, add add an axis function for it if they haven't already. I have a controller with a Z-axis, and I think a mouse wheel could work. And didn't they have forward facing hatches on some tanks? I would like to be able to open those if they did.

You can do it in T34/85 too. Move your driver's head position forward

Not necessarily. It's sufficient if the forward/right view is left at default (for T34/Tiger/Panzer), or forward/left (Sherman). That way you can still look at the gauges if you have to.
My forward view, T34/85:

My forward/right, to see the gauges:

Even with a "open hatch" feature you would have to go back to the main view to see the instruments.
Essentially it's the same thing as what we have now. You have to learn to drive by feel, by the sound of the engine, etc, then you don't even need the instruments.
Except for that annoying moment when you're trying to restart or shift gears and you're in neutral (or not in it, as the case may be!), then you have to duck back in to double check ;)

Well not quite the same. If the forward facing hatches (if any) were open, then you would still have a better view then through the vision slit.

Did you not pay any attention to Lusche's post?

yes I did, I was just saying that it wasn't the same as we have now. But thanks guys, this'll help a lot....

Tanks have instruments?

I'd be happy with being able to change gears in different seating positions of the tank.

Set a button to the "Forward" view. I use the pinkie switch on my X52. Set your "default" head position without any buttons depressed. Then push the Forward button (default keypad 8, IIRC) and you head will move back to the gauges. Same thing can be done in reverse for aircraft to get a better view over the nose for snapshots and carrier landings.

OK, thanks guys....
