- Our DVD player is dying.
- Might as well replace with Blue-Ray.
- Might as well get a Play Station 3 for a Blue Ray player.
- Heard that Play Station 3 will support Play Station 2 games.
- Play Station 2 games are cheaper now.
So... What's the "cherry pick list" from the long catalog of Play Station 2 games.
This will be mostly for my 10 and 12 year old gamers in the house.

Madden...
-
I played the "Ace Combat" series, they rock.

The new Playstation 3 Slim doesn't have backwards compatibility. If you want to play PS2 games on a PS3, you need to make sure you get an old version.

Rgr That... Thank you for saving me grief on that point.

Madden, Guitar Heroes, Rock Bands. That's pretty much all I play on PS3.

MIDNIGHT CLUB 3: DUB EDITION
Love that game. I've made so many vettes :lol
-
Rumble Racing. Although not a whole ton of people have heard of it, you'll never put the controller down once ya play :D
Star Wars Battlefront I and II Both great games, sorta like AH except it's mainly infantry
-
SOCOM
MoH
ea hockey and college football
-
Ace Combat: Zero has the best storyline, but Ace Combat 5 has the better wingmen AI (They can actually do Air to Ground attacks!). Very good games in their own rights though.
Star Wars Battlefront II, it is nigh impossible to find a copy of SWBI that isn't scratched badly enough to affect the game (Mine came with a scratch, and now I hear wookie calls in the stead of background music. :( )
Katamari Damacy has probably THE best soundtrack of any Waaay-Out-There game, and is pretty cool to play too.
The .Hack//GU series is a RPG series, with a fairly silly game-mechanic of "Pseudo-MMORPG in a Playstation 2 game," but if you can get around the "psuedo game in a game" idea and the fact that all you really need to do is alternate between X and R1 to win, it is a fun, if very long game series.
Now, if you want to go into the "Essential Classics," on the PSN, they should have Megaman Legends 1 and 2.
G-Darius is easily one of the best arcade shooters ever, and was ported onto the PS2 in Taito Legends 2, though the PS1 version has the same, and comes with the case. Also available on the PSN.
Megaman X4 and X5 are also great games, and just as difficult as a Megaman game SHOULD be.
I have heard good things about the Ratchet & Clank series, same with the Jak & Daxter series.
On a final note, do NOT get Secret Weapons Over Normandy or IGPX. Not very good games.

If you want any hope of playing a PS2 game on a PS3, you'll have to search for I think it was the original 60gig version when the PS3 first launched. This was the only PS3 that was backwards compatible with PS2 games since it was basically a PS2/PS3 (in addition to the Cell technology that powered the PS3, it also had the PS2 processor). Good luck finding one, probably could find a used one on eBay.
ack-ack

IF ya grab a PS3 Killzone 2 is a must have FPS IMO.
-
I don't have it, but alot of my friends say Killzone 2 really sucks. And I liked secret weapons over normandy, it had great CV battles, but you might need to add the cheats first

Yeah, you can call them great, but fighting against ~60 planes while defending a couple of ships that should have AA, yet don't is not my idea of fun. Also, cheats without beating the game first is weak. :neener:

Heroes of the Pacific.
-
The Call oif Duties are fun, too. I like 1v1ing my brother in Multiplayer mode...usually ends in fist fights...
-
Personally, I think it's worth it to buy all the console versions of the Ace Combat series so that you can see the plotline evolving. Well, except Ace Combat 3, which was a game on massive scale (think Final Fantasy 7 kinda thing) in Japan, but was cut to bare boring minimum for the NTSC versions. Tragic shame. (Also, "Ace Combat 1" is actually called Air Combat. Don't ask me why.)
-
Mercenaries 1 on PS2 and Mercenaries 2 on PS3
Imagine grand theft auto in a warzone. Basicly: Jack tanks and run over mindless enemies while blowing up EVERYTHING..... all by youre own free will.
Plus, who doesnt like a tactical nuke for 1 million each when you have 3 billion in the bank.
-
Gran Turismo 4 (until this december when GT5 comes out on the PS3).
Tourist Trophy like Sandman said. It's the motorbike version of GT4.
-
I gave my Ps2 to my brother years ago, but this was BY FAR my favorite game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqBPuUidk8Y

Would you happen to still have a copy of AC3 layin around? I got one, but it's uber scratched and dosen't work most of the time.

For PS3: Warhawk, Call of Duty 4, Dangerous Hunts 2009.

I have every Ace Combat game (except the crappy GBA version), but I prize each and every one. :D Sorry. eBay looks to have plenty of copies, though.
Warhawk
Ever play the PS1 version? I loved that game, but the cutscenes got to me when I was really little.

I thought the newest generation of PS3 ('slim') doesnt support the 2 games? kid has a 80 gig 3 (which DOES support '2' games..) with bad blue ray drive..repair is 150$...or spend 300$ for brand new

If you read further, you'll see it was already rebutted.
I'm glad my PS3 is 320GB. I put all my media on it. :D

The only PS3's that will support PS2 game whether is be via software emulation or hardware will have a serial of; CECHBxx, CECHAxx, CECHCxx, or CECHExx. None of these are still in production so your gonna have to go to Amazon, Ebay, etc to find them.
Hope this helps.
