I've had both Intel and AMD. Both ran great.

I run AMD, does everything I need.

I use AMD.
-
I have been running AMD all the time... I have built many many AMD systems with 100% success..... Only problem I ever had was w/ Windows7 and not being able to use the duel core optimizer..Which of course Scuzzy and gang fixed....
I use Asus MB's and Ati Vid cards...
Rite now I am runnin..
Asus MA4A78 board
Phenom II 965 Quad
MSI ATI 4870 512
4 megs of GSkill 3200
It does all I want.. I can't see wasting all that cash on the Intel stuff.... OK maybe it's some faster but REALLY... for AH ... we really don't need it.....
I know Rich "TilDeath" builds some Intel Screamers for you guys but the AMD option is a more cost effective approch... I wonder if he ever considered that as an economy option...
I wonder if I had his skills how fast I could get one of these baby's flying ?? :airplane: <G>

I've switched every other gaming system as I've built them out, between Intel and AMD.
My new gaming system is Intel (assuming I ever find time to finish it off, that is) E8600
My current game system is AMD, built just about 5 years ago. (4600+)
My previous game system is Intel (P4-D 2.8) and is now my "main" home computer, which is just about 6 1/2 years old
My previous gaming system was an AMD (XP, built in around 2001 - and my stepson still uses it for games like Warcraft and whatever the popular online RPG game is whose name I can't recall.)
Both are fine - but at any given point in time one or the other usually has a technological edge over the other. I only hope that AMD gets it together again to win the next go-round. This keeps Intel honest...

AMD,I love it, cost friendly but with a big bang for your buck. runnin a 940 X4 BE right now, lovin it

I built my computer couple years ago I saw Intel had moved ahead of AMD, I was rebuilding on a budget.Intel was out of my budget range. My last 3 computers been AMD.
A person can save a little with AMD and put the money in another direction, RAM, video card whatever.
I also notice many people been buying the AMD 550 and unlocking them. succesfully.

I have used AMD processors for every build I have done for Aces High, except the very 1st PC build..which back then in 1999 I built an Intel Celeron 333 mhz with a 32 meg vid card, 96 megs of PC100 ram and a 60 gig Hard Drive ( Maxtor BIGFOOT? )
at that time Aces High was a mere 16 megs full download....and the game ROCKED :rock
although if I recall correctly, there was no autotake off, no stalllimiter...you actually walked from the tower, down the stairs across the field to the hangar......and you had to actually taxi out to the runway........ I remember Brooke, nomde, hitech, Lonz and a few others that were there on my initial flight......... man has this game come a very long way........
Aces High is set up on both WinXPpro & Windows 7 64bit OS's......it runs maxed out in all settings using a screen resolution of 1280 x1024 @ 70hz ( 75hz on Windows 7 ) on a DELL 19" ULTRASHARP LCD monitor ( non-widescreen type ) ( my 19" LCD is just 3/16th's of an inch smaller than my old IT Pro 21" CRT monitor.....measuring diagonally........ )
today, I currently use the following:
Antec 900 series case with (2) 200 mm fans, (3) 120 mm fans
PC Power & Cooling 750 watt PSU
AMD Athlon 6400+ x2 3.2 gig dualcore processor
ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe MB
ASUS ATI HD3870 512meg 256bit DDR4 PCI-E x16 vidcard
(4) 1 gig sticks CORSAIR XMS2 PC6400 4-4-4-12 memory matched running in dualchannel mode
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Pro series Soundcard
(2) Hitachi 320 gig SATA II HDs, (2) Hitachi 160 gig SATA II HDs
Roswell 7 in 1 with 1.44 Floppy drive card reader
(1) ASUS DRW-2014L1T DVD-RW w/Lightscribe Drive
1 ASUS DVD-E616A3T DVD-ROM drive
how and why/what I use the HD's for-
1 of my 320 gig HD's is partitoned to run in dual boot mode. using Windows XP pro 32 bit & Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
my other 320 gig HD is setup with my MSDN technet partner's Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit enterprise copy (<---using this for my work for AutoCAD MEP, EnergyGuageUSA, USDOE software, Wrightsoft Universal, Design2Fab, etc........
my 2 160 gig HDs are set up in a RAID 1 configuration and uses Windows XP pro 32bit for a backup HD/OS also important files and for using incase of emergency if something happens to any of the other HDs.......
since all these HDs are hotswappable is easy to plug/unplug on the fly by unscrewing the 2 thumbscrews on the side access panel and swinging the homemade hinged panel open........
sorry for the long rant........ to end......... my MB runs around 31 to 33 degrees celsius , the processor runs around 34 to 37 degrees celcius and my videocard runs right at 34 degrees celcius......while the room temperature ranges from 74 to 79 degrees....... this is under normal to full loads
Thansk to TilDeath for his pic of a way to make a top filter...... this PC setup moves a tremendous amount of airflow, and if no prefilters are used becomes dirty very quickly....... next, I hope to flip my PSU upside down and do a custom wire routing job, idea came from some pics where TilDeath posted showing his PC Power & cooling PSU ( bottom mounted ) was installed this way.....

Nah they fixed that, now the game just crashes :)
I saw a way on the internet to convert the X3 to an X4... I'll tell ya if I find it

board has to support AAC and not all chips will unlock..

I used to run AMD but after they made socket 939 obsolete early after tricking people into buying into it, I don't have any brand loyalty. I go for the fastest that I can afford. And since the difference between a fast AMD chip and a fast intel chip is under $100, with total system price difference being MAYBE $200 at most for a noticeably faster system, I went with Intel when I replaced my AMD socket 939 dual core cpu. Intel E8400 cpu with a very very mild overclock, ASUS P5Q pro mobo, 4 gig of DDR2, a reasonably fast 500GB SATA drive (one big partition backed up daily with norton ghost), and an nvidia gtx 260 vid card. It's plenty fast enough for even new games, and it cost about the same as it would have cost to get an AMD system with the same performance. Once you drag yourself up out of the bargain bin, Intel wins the price/performance as well as any pure performance comparison, hands down.
If you can afford it, go intel even if you have to buy a slow cpu at first. Get a decent mobo and some decent ram, and upgrade the cpu when you can. Socket 775 has lasted more than twice as long as socket 939 did... AMD gets the finger for making socket 939 obsolete when they released socket AM2 cpus. Intel didn't pull that stunt (they have at least 3 consumer sockets that all have fast cpus available) and it means my next upgrade will probably be nothing more than dropping a faster intel cpu into my current rig instead of another whole system refresh that AMD made me do.

Eagl I am with you on the 939... that sucked... I just put mine back in the box last week for the Phenom II... I was seriously considering Intel before the fix....
I have not seen any problems as of yet with this build in AH....

yes that is correct you have to have the correct bios to unlock the other cores, i tried to unlock my triple core
and I don't have the correct Bios, thres a new Bios I havn't installed to see, will eventually.
I run Phenom, no need for optimizer, no spinning board here.

yeah but you have to have the right 775 for the right 775 board and visa versa

What was the cooling used?

What was the cooling used?
Aye, I was wondering that myself.

solidified carbon dioxide. $10 at the local grocery store. :aok

Total loss dry-ice cooling?

I still have an old 939 board (two actually but one is in the box it came in) and it still runs AHII on 7950s in SLI but primarily it has become my writing computer and the wifes internet shopping system. AMDs trick with the 939 to AM2 and ATIs trick with the early Radeons not working as advertised left me as sour as I am for Creative... which means it isnt going to happen.
