Last year I stopped a man drunk off his butt, attempting to get in his pickup and drive. I didn't know him, was just driving by in the wee hours of the morning and saw him as I passed. The dude could barely walk, much less drive. So I stopped, tried to talk him out of driving for a minute, then when he made it clear he was going to drive, I decided to pull him put of the truck. I wasn't forceful or anything, just had my hand on his arm and was trying to talk him into getting out. He leaned over toward the middle of his truck with his head down and it looked like he was gonna get sick or pass out. Actually, he was going for his hunting knife. At the angle I was standing at, I never saw it. Suddenly the guy hits me in the forehead with something that dazed me good, knocking to my knee. His door was still open and now I was ticked, so I pulled him out and pounded him a few times until I knew he was really done fighting with me. I called the cops, who got there about 5 minutes later. When they arrived, they were looking at me all wide eyed and called for an EMS. I thought it was for the drunk, who I'd thumped on pretty good. To my surprise, the EMS was for me. Turns out the guy didn't hit me in the forehead, he'd stabbed me in it. I didn't even know. I thought I'd been sweating nicely, as it was summer and my adrenaline had been pumping. Turns out I was covered in blood, not sweat. I didn't even know.
So anyway, be careful when messing with drunk strangers lol. I brought this topic up because I just compared pics from the day it happened & one I took yesterday. IMO it didn't scar too bad at all. Btw, thank you to all my squaddies who called me FrankenRanger after showing them photos on our BBS after it happened. Turds.

That's the problem... what if he had a gun? I would have warned him then dialed 911. I'll bet he wasn't ever man enough to take responsibility for his actions. What happened to the loser? I'm glad it still worked out OK for you.
-
dam dude!!!!!!
see whatcha get for bein a nice guy??
seriously...glad to see it healed nicely.....but you're dam lucky he missed something more vital...like your eye, or neck.............

Not many people can say they have been stabbed. I got stabbed stopping a shoplifter. He was high on meth and who knows what else stealing cough meds to get even more high. Same kinda deal didn't even know he stabbed me until I got up from cuffing him up. Your wound puts my little thigh wound into perspective.
-
Wow, I'm glad you made it out of that one alive, Ranger!

LOL...U ever hear of the Darwin awards? You are officially a candidate..

BTW I have been involved in 2 different things like that. The first I was hit by a car while I was beating the crap out of a guy that decided to punch a girl in the face. His buddy rammed me. It knocked me out cold. The second went much better. Thats because I thought it through before I reacted. He ended up arrested in the second one and I was not injured. What Im saying is Use your head for more than a hat rack..THINK a situation through. Your training should have taught you that. I agree he needed to be stopped. You had other options...
-
You're one lucky guy, Ranger. Well done for stopping him do harm to something else.
-
Mate you got owned...... then you counter PWNED him. Glad to see you got out of it none the worse.
Good to see some people still care in this world :salute

The reward of the world is ungratefulness... (How do you put this correctly in english anyway)
Some years back, I was in a merry crowd of the company where my wife worked and we were drinking and frequently toasting with a group of Finnish people. The location: Vilnius in Lithuania. Anyway, everyone was somewhat drunk and to my surprize, most more than me.
So, the Finnish (3 women, one man, he was probably about 60 or so) prepared for departure, and the guy suddenly went rolleyes and collapsed on the floor. Nobody seemed to care, so I went and checked on the guy. He had a pulse, but very very slow, and he was not breathing at all. One minute past, and no breathing, I decided to take action, - either get him breathing by shock (In the farming this is something you learn when you have nursed hundreds of calving cows)...or if necessary, "the kiss of life" :devil
I twisted his ears and so on, which is quite a harmless pain barrier issue, but of no result. Then I smacked him on his cheeks. Slap slap. This is normally what you do to a calf that doesn't "boot up" after birth. And PRESTO! The guy gulped air and came to his senses. Looked at me and was breathing.
Happily, I helped him on his wobbly feet together with some part of the crowd that were slowly coming to their senses. And what next? He punched me from point blank, straight on the nose!!! Of course he was in no condition to fight me, but the exchange there is so sad. I saved his life and he gave me a bloody nose :furious

Spot on Ranger! :aok
That doc did some mighty fine stich work.
Angus...that sucks. But you tell it funny, so I loled. ;)
-
lol Angus
You should have hit him in the face after that just to make sure he was really awake
-
Thank you for taking the drunk off the street. Anyone that drinks and drive is the biggest kind of loser IMO.
-
lol Angus
You should have hit him in the face after that just to make sure he was really awake
The only time I hit people they end up meeting the doc. So, I quit that. Still doesn't keep me out of trouble, and especially since I am a helpful guy and somewhat not the person that simply scurries away when somebody is in trouble.
By the way, both the overconsuption of alcohol as well as a hit on the back of the head can cause the breathing function to stop. The guy had both. And the cure is either oxygen, or a shock. I was told afterwards by an ambulance personell. So, I stumbled on exactly the right "cure", and even if it left me with a bloody nose, I am very glad to have taken exact this action. And, one learns. I was the only one in a group of more than 10 to do anything at all, and if it hadn't been done, the guy would have either died or toasted his brain. And this can apply to much younger people, - there was recently a death in britain from a pint of vodka. Same thing.
So, I hope that the whole forum reads this. Good to know.
-
Whew! you mended extraordinarily well! Next time, call the police. No good deed goes unpunished.
-
If you stop breathing, you are braindead before the police/ambulance even arrive. What saves you is the odd person in the crowd around you.
Remember that, and you may save a life one day.
The feeling is rewarding.
-
Looks like you put some of your Ranger skills to use! :aok
seriously tho, good to hear that ur ok
-
MY GOD RANGER! You are lucky that he did not get you in the throat. Thank you for being a human in saving the guys life. And who know how many other livies. :salute
-
Cant call you zipper head any more, but we can call you a good man. Thanks for being a stand up guy and doing the right thing, and chicks dig guys with scars!

Thanks for the kind words fellas. This is actually old news (over a year ago) I had just never compared pics before now. The guy has a wife & kids so I made an out-of-court deal with him and the judge. 250 hours of community service of my choice and prison time suspended. I'm a family man myself & didn't want to tear one apart for one mistake. I'm not into suing people, he just had to cover what my insurance didn't, less than a grand I believe. Since I handled it on my own, there were no real legal fee for either of us to worry about. He'd accepted my conditions & this has been a closed matter for some time now. I live in a small town and we cross paths once in awhile. We never speak but usually will exchange a nod. All in all, I never had any pain from it, the stitches just itched for a week or so. I'm just glad I didn't end up with the Grand Canyon down my forehead. :lol It pays to be hard-headed sometimes. ;)
Btw Junky, great video! :rofl

With just 2 bolts on either side of your neck, Ranger u could of been Fred Munsters stunt double...... :neener:

Did you make him go to AA? If not, you should, you may be doing something more than just saving his life.

Dang Ranger,I can't see the first bit of a scar, you musta had one heck of a doc, especially with a cut that wide :D I seem to get a scar on my face from every cut that's on it, knocked a guy on his arse so hard during football in 7th grade that his helmet went inside my facemask and nailed me right between the nose and forehead, I got a straight line across my nose now reminding me of it,hehe.

I think he's done quite enough for the pos.
-
So when are they gonna fix yer ears?
-
Hard core bro...seriously. Glad it worked out in the end, and living in a small town, you'll never have to worry about anyone screwing with you again...ever...

That's a damn pretty heal-up job - did the docs use any kind of anti-scarring meds, or did they re-stitch it with finer sutures, or what?
We used to get calls at the place I worked for some kind of anti-scarring cream, had nothing to do with us.
Anyway, class act on the stop and on the settlement, too.
:salute

No anti-scarring meds. Just time & luck.

On the other hand it would have made for a very nice scar, particularly if you were wearing a Ranger T-shirt :D

Healed up perfectly! :aok

BTW ranger, jokes aside, I do think your actions are highly commendable. Many people these days would just look at a drunk getting in a car with shock and horror but do nothing about it - and who knows who that drunk might've killed.
