Title: Sdkfz 251
Post by: badhorse on October 20, 2009, 12:22:19 PM
Does anyone ever use these things?  I've seen a couple carrying troops but they are very rare.  I haven't seen one firing rockets since shortly after they first came out.  Maybe if they had a reliable way to aim the rockets they would be used more.

I think it's mainly a strat milking vehicle for getting some Vehicle Damage Kill %  ;)

I actually prefer it when running troops into a "hot" area.  Little better armor, so it's a bit more survivable. You do give up some of the M-3's speed though.

We use them in scenarios that have a ground-war component for the Germans.

They are a great vehicle when you need that extra bit of armor (though not much, it helps, also keeps the GV with the rest of the pack)

I use it.  I have a film of me killing JB21's panzer with rockets from way out.  I like to up it at TT and fire volleys at the spawns for fun.  Even if I don't hit anything, it still looks cool, almost like an arty strike.

I have seen them used in conjunction with some other GV's taking towns down of late..... Aiming is a little difficult but if you use the whip aerials as your distance counter it is quite possible to aim.....

Damn chewie...you obviously know the secret.

These are perfect for IL2 infested areas, just get a squaddy or someone to up a wirble and follow them all the way to town. And the armour is great, I have survived several passes by IL2s

Speaking of which, I'm still totally "siked' for Red Storm / Krupp Steel  :D

in regards to aiming..... Speed dictates the flight of the rocket. Moving, the rocket travel is shorter. Sitting still will allow you to shoot further.

has to do with the suspension and the vehicle bouncing about.

Use them quite often.  Underestimated big time.  The armor will help when trying to run troops in.  2 guns help fend off bad guys.  Slower than M-3 (not by much), but can repel more attacks than M-3.

Rockets........pppsssttt....c an't hit watermelon with them  :D

Aiming is a little difficult but if you use the whip aerials as your distance counter it is quite possible to aim.....

What he said move your head positions & lock them in & use the tip of aerial as your aiming point & have the angle of your rockets set for what works best for the job at hand. They will kill tanks hard to do but can be done.
