Title: Indentify this U.S. Navy bomber
Post by: Widewing on February 01, 2001, 12:10:00 PM
This aircraft was in service aboard the Lexington and Saratoga when Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. It would go on to serve in combat in the Coral Sea and at Midway. It was quickly replaced in front-line service with a more modern type by mid 1942. Identify the aircraft.

Northrop A17 is the USAAF version.... grrrr.... I cannot recall the USN name. It's not the Devastor though.

Widewing,  your quizzes are the toughest I've ever tried. And I don't cheat by using web searches.

Westy and Jimdandy are correct. It is the Vought SB2U-1 Vindicator, otherwise known as the "wind indicator".
