Flew with a twisty stick for about 12 years. Last year I purchased a complete CH setup including rudders. However I still find myself flailing and bobbling because I keep forgetting to use the rudders for slow speed turns. Just a darn good thing CH makes such durable products or that sucker would have been twisted from it's socket.
Tonight I bobbled again, fortunately the guy couldn't capitalize since I had already trimmed his airplane a bit.

When I made that transition, I put some time in just straffing GVs and ground targets to develop using my feet instead of twisting the stick, since it ususally requires some fine tuning with the rudders to line up.

I bought some rudders pedals saitek ones, I also keep forgetting to use them.

I was having a discussion with a squadie a while back and I discovered that his rudders worked opposite to mine. So I have a question?
In a real Airplane if you depress the Left Rudder the plane should angle Left? (thats the way mine currently is)
I feel silly to ask since I have been flying online since 1997 with rudders.

what helped me a lot.....i went into the ta, got in a 38, and went out over the lake. EVERYONE likes to shoot 38's.....so i had a conga line behind me, twisting n turning at low speed. you'll get used to em reeeaaallll fast that way.

Fortunately, I never used a twisty stick. For me the change was from the a s d keys to my feet, and that took about a month. Even with pedals, keeping the ball centered just by the feel of the virtual aircraft is anything but easy.

It just felt more natural for my rudders to act like a steering wheel. If you pushed left foot foward and right foot back then you would go right. So I changed mine back when I first got them. I guess it's what you get used to.

Hit the left rudder-pedal and the rudder vanes to the left and the real plane turns left. That's how real planes do it.
Tell your squadie there is a place in control setup where he can reverse his faulty rudder.

I went the other way, from rudder pedals to a twisty stick. I miss the pedals a lot, but they were unusual, homebuilt. They worked great when a gameport was the standard, but when I had to move up to USB they got flaky. After fighting the gameport to USB adapter several months I gave up and bought a twisty stick.

I tried the CH pedals long before I built my own. I didn't like the soft feel. Almost no resistance. And i didn't like when the pedals snapped hard when moving through the neutral center position.

It was just the opposite for me, I never could get used to a twisty stick and flew a long time without rudder at all, but pedals made all the difference.

It took me a while to get used to them...now I find that after and during a fight my plane is not handling too well and I think I have had a stick spike so go to re-calibrate...this is when I notice I am still on the rudder :lol :lol.

i looked at that site.
my time is worth money. the time it would take to go out, buy all the parts, then cut the stuff, then assemble it, solder everything, etc.......would cost me sooooo much more than to just buy an awsome set of ch pedals............

i don't mind building...i like learning........but........lo ok as all you need to buy. it'd be an hour or more just running around to get the parts.
for my race car....it's worth it......for my online flight sim(where my time is already seriously limited) not even close. :aok :bolt:
