Title: MS Sidewinder 2 FFB ...and Windows 7 ?
Post by: BlauK on October 27, 2009, 04:17:54 PM
Is that combination possible? Is anyone using Sidewinder2 with Windows 7 with FFB working?

I never switched from XP to Vista, partly because I believed there were unsolvable issues with Sidewinder2 forces. MS did not want to support their own old product in new OS. Is it still the same in Win7 or has someone come up with a fix or patch? I have 3 of those sticks (2 partly worn out ones for spare parts) and I'd like to keep on using them. Should I forget Win7 and stick with XP even when building a new computer?

7 has an XP compatibility mode which may be worth looking into. From what i'm told it will still use the best of the 64 bit environment in this mode. I haven't upgraded yet , but like you am looking to go from XP to 7 .You may want to research it a bit. There are some decent resources at these links.

I've seen it mentioned several places that Win7 XP compatibility mode is a virtual machine and not suitable for 3D games.

Answering myself:

MS Sidewinder2 FFB works FINE in Win7   :joystick:

I did not have to install any drivers or anything, just plugged it in. Forces were working at desktop, but not right away in the game. I also had to re-assign buttons and axis in AH, maybe I had just not copied all necessary settings or lost some of them somehow. To fix the force issue, I simply disabled and enabled the forces in AH and moved some individual force slider a bit. Everything was like before in XP :).

(Sorry for wrong forum, I suppose this should be in the hardware forum)

I'll try and stay on topic, plugged my x52pro in after a fresh win7 64bit install, found the drivers straight away. In fact its found a driver for every bit of kit i've plugged in from dual throttles and pedals to gamepads and keypads.

Dont think you will have a problem
