Title: AvA the new EW arena?
Post by: Anaxogoras on October 27, 2009, 08:20:54 PM
I was there tonight and had fun. :)  But who are these people toolsheding the map?  There was a squad of 5 in there, each with "A2" in front their cpids, running lvts against undefended bases.

Please, no more field capture in the AvA.

P.S. the current map has way too much puffy ack.

2nd Amendment squadron.  They can usually be found in the MW arena and for the most part, usually put up a pretty good fight.  I hope this is just a short phase they are going through and not turning into a squadron like the SOARS.

Check out the "Next Thursday:  Operation Iceberg" thread.  This week's setup has a mini-scenario sort of goal.  It's brought in quite a few new faces.  The fun begins when you have a squadron trying to base capture, as you describe, and people who log on can switch to the other side to oppose it.  Seems to have worked pretty well so far.  Fork set the hardness and down times to make it difficult to run the map overnight.

As for the ack:  Hey, this map has always been called "Ackinawa."  Current settings are .5 of MA standard, though, so its bark is worse than its bite.

Well, from what I saw in my short time on tonight, they definitely fly like they have been reading the SOAR A2A training manual........

I was in the AVA last night for a few hours, It wasn't to bad, in my opinion. Some of them definitely HO, so duck and cover is the name of the game. But if you know it's coming, its not so bad. Beyond that the fights were ok. the other problem was ganging but when you have a bunch of planes in close proximity like that, the last man standing is gonna get ganged, thats just life in the big city.

over-all it was pretty fun and civilized. could it be better, yes, but atleast there's people in there for now! It just takes time.

It was a hoot last night. Course it wasn't much of a fight to shoot me down but it was a riot.

Glad to see the 2A guys in there.

It took us 2hours to capture that V-base last night...
It was very well deffended
 "Very good fight"

We have been having a lot of fun in the AvA
Plan to see us in there just about every night

It wasn't well defended because those who wanted a good air to air fight moved elsewhere to get away from the puffy ack from the CV parked on the beach.

what do you mean all our planes where heavy and low altitude....

if you dont want to defend your bases, then we are gunna take them that is what the squad is about

besides the chance of puffy ack killing you in the AvA is 1 in 1000

I know what you mean about the puffy gavagai, It seems to be everywhere, I don't think I've been above 3k in there all week...lol.

I had time for 1 more flight on Monday and lifted against the 2A guys, they were attacking a Vbase from their CV. Me and TheMaj fought 2.3.4 at a time and it was a blast. They were respectful and weren't picking or zooming to the heavens, everything was basically on the deck. No BS on 200/all channels just fun fights. They did look for the HO shot alot, but it was not a big deal.

I ended up having to leave after that flight...but I'll be back for more!

<S> Gentlemen!

For the first time in months, I found someone in AvA at my login hours. Tuesday and Wednesday. Changed to Axis - yes, I did - and had excellent fights with 2nd Ammendment defending fields under attack and then a2a when they chose to go for it! Congrats, you're very welcome!

A big <S> to those that fought on my side, excellent winging and cameraderie. An excellent way to return to AvA.

Keep up the good work chaps, AvA is coming back to his feet again.

Cheers,

Query: Why should the fights be kept below 3K in an arena that is is supposed to be more historically accurate?

Read what he said and try again.

His one sentence? He finds the fight being kept below 3,000 feet a positive good. I have several times heard it alluded to that "everything should be kept below 5/8/10K etc. I do not understand why this is a positive good/goal of a historically based arena, seeing as how a 3K alt cap is low, even by Eastern front standards, certainly by the standards of the West, and distorts relative plane performance from what it actually was at typical altitudes in many cases. (109G vs. P-47D for example.)

Just because he disagrees with your point of view doesn't mean he doesn't understand it.

Its not about agreeing or disagreeing about anything. Its about him reading jaegers post then trying to spin it to troll.

last time I was in the AvA arena all they did was pull 3 CV groups up near the base stayed in the ack to collect proxie kills on the 4 guys trying to defend it from the 10 attackers plus the three CV groups. I can't wait till WW1 arena gets here. No more AvA for me.

It's a shame you let it get to you that much. AvA is seeing the most #s it has had in months. Great time to be in there.

It didn't get to me as in mad or anything. I just thought it was pointless. The attackers would never come out of the ack to fight until you started to land then vulch you. I had a couple good fights before the fleet got there one with a P38 and me in a Val and another with a P40 and me in the same Val. But when the fleets got there just became pointless to stay. I couldn't sink all 3 fleets with one val and there were only 3 others on my side and  9 or 10 attackers in the fleet ack right off the base.

Ack is usaully reduced in the AvA. Should've been no problem to drag a few out  :x

Most times AAA is .25 or .1

MA AAA is set at 2.0 which is many times higher.  IMHO our lower setting seems more realistic :D

He's not trying to spin it as anything other than a question.  However, you disagree with him and you're trying to dismiss his question by claiming it as a troll when you really don't have a valid answer to his question.

Its not that hard to see his question was a spin to try and get a flame war going akak. Maybe you should read the posts again.

This was jaeger's post.

"i find it enhances the game and it keeps the fight below 3k. works for me. just my 2 cents"

Now this was BnZs' post.

"Query: Why should the fights be kept below 3K in an arena that is is supposed to be more historically accurate?"

Now jaeger said nothing about how fights SHOULD be kept under 3k. He said that puff ack from the CVs tend to keep people below 3k. From jaeger's post it seems that he didn't mind it and you could even say he enjoyed it. Now BnZs comes in and posts a random question wording it like jaeger said the fights should be kept under 3k. Which, if anyone took the bait would have started another 'you cant tell me how to fly' thread and put all the work some people have been doing to try and get numbers into the AvA.

Its obvious to see what was happening because its happened so many times before. The AvA starts seeing numbers and people start putting the past behind them, then someone comes in and stirs the pot and it all goes down the drain.

So akak you want a valid answer to his question? Well you're right I don't have an answer, because its not a valid question.

I ran into those 2A dweebs in EW or MW a few days ago, when I got on they were having a nerd attack that buster was killing them. Then They interupted Bushlt's and my 1v1 and started to talk trash.

Went to DA with bigmouth and apparently "Got lucky" and killed em.

There are a few bad apples as there is in any arena. This is a fact of multiplayer games unfortunately  :(
