Agreed, the public funding of ANY sports teams should be criminal. To hand out millions public dollars so millionaires can play in comfort in front of other wealthy corporations and individuals is obscene. Unfortunately, the jock sniffing politicians trip over themselves to help someone who can throw a ball, or bounce it before they would help someone who can invent, manufacture, or create a useful product for all to use. :furious Any city, county, or town who sells their souls for a professional sports team deserves the misery which will befall them in the future. They might as well have a bonfire with all the money wasted for no tangible return. :old:

i hate "AMERICAN football" teams too.

I disagree.... In these tuff times sporting evens movies etc gives the people something to take their minds off of their everyday problems and stress... Just a thought anyway. :salute

If you look at the amount of money sports brings into good public colleges, you'd be simply amazed. Big name teams thrive on booster funds, endorsements, sponsorships, and a host of other funds as opposed to public funds like you feel. Add to that the tens of millions a bowl game brings to the school and you have a win win situation.

So you prefer Futball. to Football
And before someone asks about it for the 100,000th time. Its called a "foot"ball because its a foot long.

Actually...
American football has some definite origins linked to Rugby Football that was played during the 18th century in England. Rugby also draws its origins from the game of "Football" in the UK or Soccer as we know it in the US. Soccer is the more stringent form of game, not allowing carrying of ball using hands and some other rules allowed in Rugby or things like the forward pass in American Football. Football is different in so much so that it retains the originality of rugby game and is the more sophisticated version of Rugby Football. However the name Football has stuck with the sport through it's evolution from Soccer to Rugby Football to American Football.
