need some suggestions for tidying up the mess of wires in my new nzxt tempest case

Complete disassemble and start over.
Locate where you need to put wires through, and drill or cut the holes. I enlarged the holes near the drives to avoid using the large slot provided.

TD has a nice pic where he has the holes located with tape prior to cutting. Little things like removing the rear fan and turning it 180 will put the wire on top and easier to hide. And that whole bundle of extra wires (sound) from the front panel can be cut off.

cut the psu cables to length (google: psu modding/sleeving) and a couple of zip ties you should look a lot better.

Not a fan of cutting any PSU cables as it would void your warranty.

unless you got a perspex side for the case and like looking at that kind of stuff just leave it, I dont see any major obstructions for airflow or taut connections.

If you think that's a mess of cables, you should see mine. None of the cables are routed underneath. All of them are piled behind and below the drive bay.

While my case is a Cooler Master, not an NZXT, here's what I did. Maybe it will give you some ideas:
In this first photo you see the entire bundle of wires leaving my PC Power & Cooling 750W PSU. PC P&C gives you more wire than you could possibly ever need. The entire bundle is routed into the uppermost 5 1/2" drive bay where I cut metal to connect two slots on the motherboard tray side of the drive bay. Then the entire bundle of wires is unbundled and each of the wires is fed through the expanded slot. All of the excess wire and connectors are then spread out and stored between the motherboard tray and the non-opening side panal of the case.

In this photo you can see the flopy disc wire and power connectors exiting from behind the top of the 3 1/2" drive bays. Thte SATA cables also went through a hole to get behind the motherboard tray. Some of them also exit from this same area and go up to the optical drives. More SATA cables exit lower along the drive bays to connect the hard drives. About the only wire "mess" is the power connections to the hard drives as there are several connectors on a single cable.

I wanted to do as little cutting as possible when I did this so thankfully there were some well placed holes in the case frame as it was. I did have to drill one other hole so I could get the rear fan cable behind the motherboard tray. It exits at the bottom center of the case, as do a few other lower wires, and plugs into a 4 pin connector at the bottom of the mobo.
And here's the final job. Not entirely wire free but pretty clean.

And yes, mine looked a lot like the pics Dragon posted as I was doing this. Dragon is also correct in telling you it's a complete disassemble and start over.

This was the old case my squaddies called the flux capacitor

I drilled some holes and added some rubber strip to prevent chafing,was hoping to avoid it with this one. The majority of mess stems from the sentry LX fan controller,adding all the fan connections was a real pain, the temp sensors all travel under the mobo,so they are ok.
Temp readings after being on for 6 hours are between 18.2 and 25.7 degrees,not bad since my graphics card was pre overclocked and runs at 59.Q6600 Cpu was overclocked to 3.6ghz but throttled it back to stock due to not needing it (of all things)

Rgr that, using it in my new build, seems like great product.
Mine runs at 2V but they built it with overclockers in mind. The lifetime warranty is valid for installations running as high as 2.2 or 2.3V (can't remember which) but I haven't OC'd mine as it's synched with my CPU (3.2 Ghz with a 1600 FSB) so there wasn't a need to.
OK... done with the hijack.
