A quad core CPU and a pair of 8800's and your having trouble running AH?  Sounds like you need more than a new OS.  On the other hand, installing 64 bit 7 would remove any crap you and Dell installed on the PC.  That in itself should help immensely.

If u don't have problems don't try to fix them.  But if I was to upgrade OS I would get win 7 64 bit its much better

You should grab Windows 7 64 bit...you will end up much happier with the results than trying to get XP 64 to work properly.

Make sure you have Vsync disabled if you want both cards to work in game.

I'd say your better off cleaning house on your current install.

Glary Utilities, google it.  :)

DO NOT listen to this.

Actually I have been helping Sammie for some time now and both his cards work just fine as they are with vsync ON. Whatever problem you have going on is unique to your system Kazaa and you should try to fix it. Vsync OFF is never good.

With the two video cards and the 4GB ram a 64bit OS be it XP, Vista or Windows 7 will make use of all the system memory you have therefore improving overall system performance.  When calculating memory Video memory is also factored in to the System Ram when using 32bit OS's.  Will this improve your overall AH game play?  Hard to say.  What do you have your current settings set at?  Is everything maxed out and are you getting your max monitor refresh rate?  To many variances to say "YES" this will improve AH.  I am not familiar with prebuilt systems and the motherboards they use, chipsets, what BIOS settings they have limited or deleted from the BIOS makers original BIOS.  Conclusion, overall system performance will increase with a 64bit OS.

I was just passing on information which Skuzzy told me directly.

"NVidia does have an SLI profile for Aces High, but the downside to NVidia's SLI approach is it has to run with vertial sync disabled.  It does not work with vertial sync enabled."

That about sums it up nicely. If you were to get an OS I would suggest Windows 7 64-bit. It's not that you will have problems using Windows XP 64-bit (I used to and it worked fine.) it's just that Windows 7 is a new OS with a longer shelf-life, while XP is almost a decade old. Most people clung to XP because Vista just wasn't an alternative for a useful OS like Windows 7 is. Although 32-bit, I've been using Windows 7 since July and once you get used to its new layout from XP it works fantastically compared to Vista.

Using vsync with AFR (alternate frame rendering) or SFR (split frame rendering) will cause SLI to fail with certain games. SLI type should always be set to SLI Performance Mode (or Nvidia recommended) and vsync forced on. Setting the antialiasing to SLI### should set the primary card to frame rendering and the secondary card to post-processing.

TilDeath talked me into getting Vista Ultimate 64 bit.   I used to have this PC on XP Pro 32 bit.   I'm glad he took the time and helped me in choosing Vista.    I used to bash Vista, now I will probably end up going through my wife's work to get Windows 7 for cheap.

You have found one of the best sources for help with hardware on the net right here. Any one of us can be mistaken at times but generally someone will point out the error and suggest a resolution. The help that I have given you comes from first hand experience and hands-on experimentation. I cannot tell you a good reason to change operating systems based solely upon Aces High because I dont think there is one. Personally I would not go with XP 64 bit but I would instead go for Windows 7 64 bit myself. However I dont think you have a need for 64 bit at all and Windows 7 32 bit would probably suit you just fine. Now if someone were to say that a 64 bit operating system is required for some reason (in my case other programs that I use can use the extra memory space) then that would be a valid reason.

Since you use a Dell I would find out which OS gets along better on that computer (Dell might not have 64 bit drivers for every hardware item for instance).

You won't need XP for anything but some very old gaming titles or legacy software. Windows 7 works great generally speaking.

I never boot into XP anymore even though I have a dualboot system. There has been 2-3 programs so far that I couldn't get to work with windows 7 properly but I can live without them.

The 64-bit hype that's going on is mostly hype - it doesn't bring any real world performance benefits on current software. In some rare occasions you might benefit from the larger memory available but with current games running on 32-bit code the 64-bit OS really gives nothing in return.

Having said that I'm running win7x64 on two of my gaming boxes and it delivers a very smooth gameplay especially on AH (and after disabling ipv6 and optimizations from networking). There's really no valid reason anymore not to use x64 - but it would be a blatant lie to tell you x64 will boost your performance somehow. Windows7 will provide a smoother AH2 gameplay for you even in 32 bit versions though (in my experience, loads faster and doesn't stutter with sound). In reality it's much slower than XP32 even though you won't probably notice the difference.

As has been said, changing out the OS "just because" doesn't make a lot of sense - it's much effort for little gain.

What I'd suggest is to wait until for the inevitable Windows "freak out", and then (when you'd be putting a significant amount of work into repairing/recovering/reloading the OS anyway) switch OS's.
