Title: Start Times
Post by: Boxboy on November 05, 2009, 11:02:01 PM
Ahhhh I have no clue as to how 1200 tower time relates to my real life time :headscratch: I hope someone can let me know what 1200 tower time translates to in EST so I can then get Arizona time  :O

1200 Tower = 12:00pm in the tower.

FSO starts at 11pm EST/ 8pm PST in real life.

OK thanks Kermit I guess the 1200 and then later each frame had me thinking we were changing the 11 pm est times.

The time referenced in the write-up are to indicate position of the fake sun in AH2.  12:00 means straight up.  If Baumer sets a frame to start with tower clock at 18:00 -- means those flying west better have their shades on

Wish the sun can be set with time of year too.  For instance winter time, the sun is not straight up in most parts of the US regardless of the time of the day.

Could we have it start closer to the central time zone so the people on the east coast could have it start one hour earlyer and the west coast one hour later, seems to be a reasonable balance between the time zones. Let face it us on the east coast who participate in the FSO are flying sometimes past 1:00 AM hardly seems fair not to find a compromised time slot for all concerned.

I agree a one hour shift would be nice.

LOL wait till you go into a room and then forget why you went there  , but a move to 10 or even 9 pm eastern wouldn't effect me much since AZ never changes its time I would be either 2 or 3 hours different depending on time of year.

Starting 30 minutes or even an hour earlier would probably be manageable for right coasters. Any earlier and those of us with jobs are going to have a problem.

I don't plan on any time change.
Been in this slot for years and has been working fine with significant growth in FSO. Despite the late slot for those in the East, it is a 'Friday night'.

I understand that this start time has been this way for years but since the FSO has become more popular what is the balance of people east to west coast and why is this not changeable or is it  :headscratch:

No matter what time slot I would pick, someone would have a work issue, and I gave up a long time ago trying to please everyone.

The big problem I see with changing times is that you're messing with something that isn't broken.

There are 500+/- folks playing in this timeframe.  A few years ago it was 150-200.

If you alter the time, you're going to get backlash from all those established folks who've been playing for years suddenly having to alter their schedules or miss out due to their own conflicts.

So then you're stuck with having to make a choice between those that want to but cant due to their schedules, and those that have been for years but now can't because of their schedules.  Sounds like a textbook 'no win situation' to me.

Who's to say that the numbers won't increase if you do change the times?  No way to tell until you try it. But, in the meantime, your little experiment could cause a lot of permanent damage to the existing cadre.

It is unfortunate that a time that satisfies everybody cannot be chosen.  I have to burn vacation time just to watch my daughter play volleyball because the schools insist on scheduling the games right after school.. which is about 2 hours before I get off work.

Feels like we are at a congress session..
Jeesh!
Do you know how boring those are?
Enjoys the Fso's, They are as close as we can get to History...   Tuk151

I understand your point but what would be the harm in getting a current pole on the possibility of shifting the start time back one hour. As you have said you have tried to please everbody a long time ago :old: , maybe allot of the people who flew FSO then aren't even here today  :uhoh and that issue may now be moot with out a current assessment  :headscratch:

Sometimes things need to be updated as a matter of course.

Back an hour or forward and hour? Back an hour means that it would start @ 12am here on the East Coast

Back a hour on the East coast would be 10:00 PM, pushing the time back such as a delay would be 12:00 PM

If we pushed it forward an hour to 12am we could probably get a lot of the European players in. That'd put it at 5am their time, usually.
I know some that would get up early on Saturday morning for that kind of action.  :devil

Personaly, since I'm on the west coast, an hour earlier would be great. It is Friday night after all, and I can gt out a wee bit sooner.
The established time is fine by me, and I totaly agree with what APDrone said about cultivating the FSO over the years to the number of players we have flying currently, and how a time shift might disrupt the hard work, up to this point, to enlist this many pilots to participate in the events. However, there would be no harm in running a poll so that the community can give you it's honest input on the matter, not just the people who read and or post on the boards. Just a thought. :salute

Oh, and when I speak of the community, I mean that the CO's should be notified of a poll and that they should speak with their respective squads before answering the poll. In fact, to give a better assessment at the squad level and not just having everybody tossing in their own two cookies, it should be a CO only poll. As long as they take the matter up with their own squads first. Just a, I say, just a thought. :bolt:

I agree. The 353rds attendance is effected by the later start, an hour earlier would make a difference
