Title: Actual plane participation in MA
Post by: MANDOBLE on September 28, 2001, 06:10:00 AM
kills + deaths of a total of 33 fighter models (listed only those that have at least half the top fighter number):

N1K2 34.493 -> half 17.246
SpitIX 29.767
P51D 21.853
La7 17.709

The rest are too far away the N1K2.

Mandoble,

Over what period?

If this data reflects the results over a long period, for me this shows what people perceive to be "fun" playing AH; to get as many kills as possible with the minimum of effort, i.e. "quake" mentalitity. Always thought of the N1K2 as an easy ride and a quaker tool.
I find it much more rewarding to get good results in more difficult handling planes with less surviveability chances, but that's just silly me.

Mandoble, i think u cant stop people from doing this.

When 1.08 will fix the know flaws with the NIKI and LA7 there will be a time of about 2-4 weeks in which those non-affiliated players will find another bird that suits there task best.

If u wanna start with bets, i say Spit IX and F4U1D will make the race.

Agree Naudet, add Spit V to the race in the following order:
Spit IX
F4U-1D
Spit V

Naudet, Mandoble,

You are making a pretty big assumtion that the N1K2 and La7 will become unusable.

They are being fixed, not neutered/removed.

Both the N1K2 and La-7 were very good fighters, don't think that they will suddenly suck.

I also note the fact that anti-N1K2/Spitfire types continue to ignore the position of the P-51D in number 3. You talk about the N1K2 and La-7 disappearing from the list and then you put the F4U-1D and Spitfire MkV in while, with no explanation, the P-51D disappears from the list.

If the N1K2 is seriously weaker (which I doubt) then the Spitfire MkIX (of which a whopping 300 were built, 100 less than the N1K2) will take the top spot, probably followed by the N1K2.

It is clear that most people like to turn & burn.  The best two fighters for that are the N1K2 and Spitfire MkIX. If those two fighters were perked/nerfed/removed I think many people would try to use less competitive turners like the Spitfire MkV and A6M5b. Once they realized that those were so out performed by the late war speed demons that they were hard to be successful in many would quit.

Sure, some would go to the late war speed demons and learn how to use them.  It isn't very hard really. Some of them would decide that they didn't enjoy the BnZ approach and would quit, others would stay on.

The most common aircraft would then be things like the P-51D, La-7, Bf109G-10 and Fw190D-9.

At that point I would quit.

I like to be able to fly a mix of aircraft types.  Late war speed demons would be a much worse plague than slow turn and burners like the Spitfire MkIX and N1K2.

I want to fly the Mosquito FB.VI. It can run from the Spitfire MkIX and N1K2. Against the La-7, P-15D, Bf109G-10 and Fw190D-9 it is dead. It can't run, can't dive, can't climb, and can't turn with those aircraft.

Hey that sounds like the P-38 heehee

Tac,

Yeah, I agree that the P-38 is in the same boat.

An MA in which the most flown aircraft were late war speed demons would be far less diverse and enjoyable than an arena in which the most flown aircraft are slowish turn and burners.

This is why I strongly think that aircraft such as the Spitfire MkXIV should be perk planes.  All in one packages would be too disruptive to diversity.

"Perk 'em all, perk 'em all
The fast and the slow and the small
Perk all the nikis and C-hogs in blue
Perk anything that can shoot back at you!"

Does this EVER end? EVER?

Fly what you like, fer cod's sake! Quit trying to FORCE other people to fly what you think they should fly. Have the decency to allow them to make THEIR choice as you make YOUR choice.

"Yah know, it just RUINS the game for me when other players fly planes I don't want them to fly. Those quakers.. those dweebs.. "

Toad,

Just for clarities sake, I don't want any of the non-perk aircraft in the MA to be perked. I like it how it is now.

Can't speak for others though.

Many interesting points here.
Reminds me of an idea I had a while ago, which was whether it would be a good idea to introduce different planesets for different fields, for example only big bases with full planeset, or some fields with older planeset and other with newer ones. Just made me wonder...
