Title: Help my daughter out if u can
Post by: SFRT - Frenchy on November 09, 2009, 10:32:02 AM
The little devil just turned 15 and has a thing for music. She's playing alto sax, but for the last year or so she taught herself guitar and makes her own songs - music/lyrics. She plays in coffee shops for fun, and entered a contest called "School Jam USA", a national HS jaming contest. Even if her style is very different from other entries - mostly folks/pop - and we recorded on our laptop, she did qualify for the semi final, winning Utah. Now they have a voting system up on the contest website to select the 10 bands they'll send duke it out for the finals in California.

If you guys could lay a hand, it'll be great. A good way to promote teens doing good things. :old:

You can vote here once a day till Dec 5th. Her band name is "The Suspenders".

Autumn Twilight solo was impressive.

Something doesnt quite sound right with the backing players, squeaky notes her and there, is that her band or just an orchestra at school?

She has a good breath on the sax, thanks for sharing.

edit: Just heard Daytona, so thats her band. Something about it almost remind me of grunge: nirvana, foofighters type of sound.

nice one!

Yes it was with the HS band, some trumps in the background butchered it up a lil. I'm always amazed what so little time anyway.

I remember my kid when she was a lil Liza Simpson, walking around with her sax. Seing her in the spotlight, all grown up ... that was a wakeup call!

Every dad in here know what I mean  :lol

Very nice sound and tone, very consistent mellow sound. I like that.  I have been a Sax player for 10 years now.  I play the bari, tenor, alto, and soprano.  I have two bueschers one that I bought back in 2000, and another that I purchased 3 years ago. The one that I purchased 3 years ago is a 1939 buescher true tone low pitch c.  I absolutely love it.  I play on a selmer jazz metal mouthpiece that is 8* and I use a 1 1/2 strength reed.  I love to play swing, my absolute favorite.

If she likes the Sax Lee Thompson is an interesting model.
Just a little new earworm here. Not so hard sax.

But the most famous ones require a workout:

Lots of good saxophone sprints in their songs :D

Personally, I enjoyed "The Sound" best of the three you posted links to (from one song writer to another). Good luck to her :aok.  Give us a reminder every couple days, so we remember to vote regularly.  When you get to the point where she wants to do a professional studio recording of her music (high-end demo, or even for release), let me know.  I'll hook you up with the studio that does mine.  They're very reasonably priced, and do good work; they'll work with you long-distance, so long as you have a good local place to cut your final vocal track.  Sample of their work here: www.myspace.com/richowen61 .
