If he goes through with this it will be a really stupid move IMHO.

Someone once sung... Better to Burn Out then to Fade Away.... :rock Rip Areosmith
-
This is being blown out of proportion. This has more to do with Perry being pissed off, more than anything. For crying out loud, Tyler broke shoulder falling off of the stage and had a couple foot surgeries and checked into rehab for the surgery recoveries...all of this last year.
Perry has obviously had too much Heroin to remember he left Aerosmith from 1979-1984.

About time! :rofl :noid
No more crappy aerosmith songs woohoo :rock

uumm.........aerosmith's "crappy" songs are lightyears better than 90% of the poop that passes for music today.
Make that 95%...what is considered popular today should be banned for pure stupidity.

greatfulldead

Those are the only groups I agree as being major suxxors...otherwise you need to wash your mouth out with soap...Aerosmith rates up there with Led Zepplin and the Stones as legends in 20th century music...the crap that's being listened to today in most categories doesn't even rate mention.
-
Aerosmith does rate up there with Led Zepplin BUT Zepplin went out with class, Areosmith is just sucking every penny out of the public before they go away.
-
Make that 95%...what is considered popular today should be banned for pure stupidity.
Same could be said about 95% that was popular 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years ago. It's just that most of the crap of that times is forgotten now. And so the low-quality stuff of today will fall into obscurity as well.
Areosmith is just sucking every penny out of the public before they go away.
Unfortunately they aren't alone there. Many former great bands missed the point to disband before becoming their own cover band.. or caricature even.
-

Disagree...even the worst of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s was nowhere near as bad as what is popular today...and you know what I'm talking about...it's the junk that make "ghetto wear" and the entire ghetto drug culture popular...how long has it been since you saw someone wear a baseball cap turned the right way (besides on baseball players)? Even hard core wannabe alternative bands are using the same lyrical style to sell their crap music...some of it is tolerable...the rest could use some napalm.
-
anybody that has seen aerosmith live will agree with me when i say that they are NOT their own cover band :furious
-
the rolling stones are as far from "great" as you can get,(sry cap) and Greatfull dead are further then they are, the beatles what can I say about them, gee lets all cut our hair short so the parents wont hate us...biggest commercial band ever!! :rofl
I know lots of people love these bands and I just cant figure out why :huh
and AC/DC oh boy lets play the same notes for every song, straight up laughable
KISS...hey I got an Idea lets put face paint on and play really loud and make a big show with fire so people will like us cuz we are Different even though we can only play at one speed and have a horrible singer and horrible guitar player ect ect...
Metallica was once good but they went the commercial route at the Black album and destroyed themselves, Megadeath is a much better band.
quick list of the greatest bands
Led Zeppelin top of the pyramid NO one touches them. the Pinnacle of Rock and Roll. Greatest of all time, crem-de-la-crem of rock and roll, Best of the Best, the top dog, the grand poo ba,the fastest fish in the sea, the brightest star in the sky, the biggest building on the block ect ect... Kieth Richards/Joe Perry are not worthy to string Jimi Page's Guitar, did I say that I like Led Zeppelin :P
Megadeath
Black Sabbath
Flotsam & Jetsam
Iron Maiden
Jimi Hendrix
Judas priest
The Guess Who
The Doors
Queen
Ten years after
Cream
The Animals
Bad Company
Rush
Fleetwood Mac
of course this is Just MNSHO :D :t
Areosmith does rate up there with Led Zepplin BUT Zepplin went out with class, Areosmith is just sucking every penny out of the public before they go away.

Oh my word I haven't Laughed that hard in a looooooooooong time.
-
Ink I do find myself agreeing with most of your thoughts here, and your list of great bands is for the most part similar to mine. However I have to respectfully and completely disagree with your assessment of the Stones. (and to a lesser extent, the dead) Just curious what you don't like about the Stones is all, as you didn't say *why* they were/are far from great.
-

This coming from a guy who put Cream and Flotsam&Jetsam in his list of legendary bands.... :rofl :neener: :rofl :neener: :rofl :neener:
Talk about using the same tune for every song...Metallica...The Doors...Judas Priest.
Should have stuck with the mushroom tea instead of trying to light up that banana peel... :neener:

they have a couple of songs I would not change from the radio but thats it, most of there music is exactly the same, I judge a band on how the Music makes me feel, whether they are able to change styles and do it good, the percentage of good to bad songs, the stones much like the Beatles (who I really cant stand), are a commercial band, and every member is mediocre at best.
-
Hopefully they work things out.

you obviously did not read, Metallica I listed as one of the most over rated.

Disagree...even the worst of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s was nowhere near as bad as what is popular today...and you know what I'm talking about..
And yet you could hear/read this stament in every generation again. When I grew up in early 80's, I was lectured by "old" 30yo guys about how much todays music sucks, there ain't "nothing good out there anymore". So was my mother in the 60's: "You seriously don't want to call that yeah yeah yeah stuff music? Beatles? Just a bunch of monkeys"
-
Ink.. everyone has there Opinions of who's the best, We all know what Opinions are like right? I'm 49 seen Zepplin many times, seen Aerosmith when they was a warm up band, They were good in there day BUT Aerosmiths days a long gone, you made a list some i agree, The others are you kidding me? :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl like i said its Opinions.

I WAS being generous, so as to not offend too many people.
the beatles do not suck.....at all.

music from the 50's 60's and 70's still to this day recieves air time.
50 years from now, i highly doubt that todays music will still be seeing the same. but more than likely the 50, 60, qand 70's stuff will.
-
anybody that has seen aerosmith live will agree with me when i say that they are NOT their own cover band :furious
i saw them at the spectrum back in 1985.
their show was friggin awesome, and they sound as good live as they do on their albums....something 99% of todays bands can't say.
-

I wish I could have seen Zeppelin, I am 40, I started listening to them in 1980, I think it has a lot to do with the Fact that my brother who was 4 years older then me loved them more then any one else, he died when I was 10 and ever since then just cant get enough of em, plus the fact that they all are great musicians, they don't have one bad song, and they Quit when Bonham died. showing him huge amounts of respect,
I know a couple of the bands I listed are not truly "Great" but the wife made me add a couple :lol
-
you probably never even heard Flotsam & Jetsam, list one song with out "google" and I never smoked banana peels, I stick to the great green Herb :D
I heard one song compliments of a friend...sounded like thrash punk or something like that...maybe death metal...rather listen to Helmet, much better band...still not in the same league as Megadeth, Sabbath or Zepplin.
You still have to explain Cream...The Doors...and Judas Priest.
If you liked that cowflop you should have liked Motorhead and Montrose...
-
Ink.. i got to see Zepplin in 77 and 78 when they played in the Seattle Kingdome, i remember when all the local stations were saying that when they played Stairway to Heaven that the Kingdome roof was going to fall in, lol when that song played 95% was looking up, lol i didn't care i was baked and having a blast, The Kingdome had some excellent bands that played there, Zepplin, Heart, Robin Trower, Pat Travers, Black Sabbath, Rush (seen them 5 times) Queen, oh man i could go on about all the bands I've seen there

Flotsam would maybe classified as "thrash metal" or "speed metal" definitely not "death metal" they have all great band members, and sing about real stuff. there singer is phenomenal!! if you dont like hard fast music with great singing, who sing about the crooked Government, you wont like them.
motorhead sux hard core, never heard of Montrose.
cream was a great 60's band that made feel good music,
The Doors well they had a great writer for a singer and played music that you feel,
Judas Priest there singer is also awesome, there music is extremely tight, they can change up awesomely and they are all about the music.
to the Op sorry bout the Hijack.

If your music list is anything like mine I'm betting you have everything from Bach to Dimmu Borgir. My collection is a bit dated right now but I have everything from classical to death metal and shamefully beyond...35 GB and counting.

uumm.........aerosmith's "crappy" songs are lightyears better than 90% of the poop that passes for music today.
Umm depends one what you like. To me they are stuck in the same old rut with the same old sound. Many bands have expanded from their original sound and chose to concentrate on their music rather then make more money. To me their just another Rolling Stones . Just the same old same old.

I disagree on The Beatles, Stones (I do not like ANY of their stuff after Some Girls, but the Mick Taylor years are awesome) and Bon Scott years of AC/DC. I'm with you on the others for the most part. I do like Touch of Gray by the Grateful Dead, because of the Lyrics. But Kiss, I'm right there with you, I own nothing by them and never will. I've most of their "relevant" music and it is played to death.
Aerosmith has always been hit or miss with me. I lose them after Pump, by then, they had leaned towards "Top 40 hits" instead of worrying about the Music. I sort of see Aerosmith and the Stones in the same light, they've put out a lot of crap since 1989. But, they'll stick around now because of the flip flop of Concert Ticket pricing. 10 years ago, as a band you lost money on Tours and recouped it in the Stores. Now it's flip flopped, because the Stones can charge $90 for an Upper Bowl seat ticket.
As for today's music Paul: I listen to Oasis, Supergrass (awesome band), Weezer. I still listen to the Revolting noodles and am pissed I was out of town when they toured last year.
-
Kings of Leon and Volbeat :rock

thats funny, Jailbreak 74 was and is a great song, that is when they were good but so much crap since then, just cant stand them.
the only song from the Dead I like is "going to hell in a bucket"(think thats the name)
I never heard of any of the music you list as today's :D im a dinosaur stuck in the 70's :lol

Give Supergrass a shot Paul. I think you'll like em. I'm the same way for the most part mostly Classic Rock here. T. Rex, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rush, Zeppelin, the Who, Stones, Beatles, Cream, The Cars, etc.

This smells to me like a publicity stunt to drum up interest in the band again :noid Then they can have their 2,000 th reunion tour like the Eagles or other WAY over the hill bands that should be home collecting SSI checks and going to the early bird specials. I agree with Lusche that music quality taste is entirely subjective. Considering most people stop listening to anything new or different past the age of 25 perceptions of quality will be skewed to the music heard or listened to in those years. As always exceptions exist but several studies have shown that after the age of 25 most people limit their music to the familiar or similar to their favorite types. :rock

Read my first reply, that is exactly what Perry has done. Tyler just merely wants to be 100% after surgeries. Think of Journey around 94 or 95. Steve Perry was finally over his "stagefright" and needed just a few more months of recovery from a degenerative bone condition (Pelvis). The rest of the band pushed him too hard and he left for good.

Aerosnorters(and shooters), The Beaters, all that stuff: Commercial GARBAGE that record companies have rammed down your throats and brainwashed you into thinking they are actually any good.... Even Paul himself has said that the Beaters were mediocre at best.. There is no difference between bands like The Backdoor Boys/Nsync/Sluttney Spears and all the other commercial/corporate butt-rock you people so adore....
Pathetic....
Whinetallica: Let me tell you something about these sweetheartbags.... Kirk Hammett is the only musician worth anything among them.. You can bet your arse that if Cliff was still around, they'd be as heavy as they were during the Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning and Master Of Puppets eras or there would be no Metallica.. Metallica ceased to exist after Cliff got crushed by the buss... Cliff was metal.. Cliff will always be metal.. The rest of these washed out skinbags are worthless without him.... And, I can absolutely without a doubt outplay Lars Ballrich anyday with both arms and legs tied behind my back and the drumsticks in my back side.. Saw them live on their tour this summer(was free: I'd never pay to see them).. Lars gets worse and worse every time I see them.. He's had timing issues ever since he's been playing, but this last time I them, he was horrible and I hear him make many many errors.. I seriously hope none of you think he's actually a good and technically inclined drummer..
As far as what I listen to: Most of you are too indoctrinated and brainwashed by corporate musical entities to the point that anything else outside your current familiarity or scope of the world sounds like an alien language and is more or less unintelligible..
Oh! I saw that those sweetheartbags from Greed(creed) got back together.... Well, not really got back together.. They just changed singers at one point and called it something else but sounded exactly the same..
So, they have their original sweetheartbag Eddie Veder vocalist wannabe back.. Oh, the humanity....
Most of you have absolutely no clue what music is.... Many of you think that if a band doesn't play an arena to a capacity crowd, have a video on MTV, or are played every 20 minutes on the radio that they must not be any good.. Look past the corporate music oligarch mediocrity..
Beh, most of you haven't a clue when it comes to music... Seriously.....
Not a fan of Hip Hip(I don't think it's music)..
Not a fan of country(I can only take so much twangy-ness and pushed out bottom jaws to get that
characteristic vocal country singers are so noted for)..
-
I've never understood how you can sit down and listen to a post-Rubber Soul Beatles song and say 'the Beatles suck'. I would agree they made some crap in the early years (they made some good songs too for sure) but Rubber Soul, Revolver and Abbey Road are among my favorite albums ever... To be honest I can't put anyone over the Beatles other than Led Zeppelin.
It's just good music...
To me it almost seems like there's only two kinds of music anymore... the people who soulless pop crap, and then people who think their music taste is superior into the proportion of ridiculously obscure bands they listen to... which are equally soulless and crappy in their attempt to be obscure and unreachable by any kind of considerable audience.
-

(yes I do agree on your take of Metallica) trapped under Ice, was awesome, and all there stuff before "black"

Ridiculously obscure only because they choose not to play to corporate record companies whims, which is something you apparently are in lock-step-and key with...
You have my pity....
-
Funny how all of you post bands that one can routinely tune to any FM/XM station and hear every 20 minutes(or less)..
I haven't seen anyone post anything like Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Zappa: Stuff that actually takes some thought to wrap your mind around..
-

I like Hawkwind, I've always been a fan of Zappa, and to be honest I'm not real familiar with Blue Cheer beyond catching a tune from time to time. Therefore I'd like to put forth the same question to you as I do to all my friends light-headed from the thin air up there: Do you dislike commercialized groups because of their music or their status? Can you honestly look at yourself and think "If suddenly Hawkwind were to become a household name, I would still think the same of them."
Now I find myself making the same assumptions about you as those to whom you have so successfully shown your pity. Funny how that happens.

I had Sirius for a year and never ONCE, heard a Supergrass tune, let alone Revco. You said "all", which includes me. But I never said I liked Metallica. In fact I'll tell anyone all day long without change, that Kill em All is their best and only album I'll listen too. I prefer Megadeth. The main reason Metallica went after Napster is that they were losing Money to buy their Blow with.
Zappa's great, I just have to be in the right mood. I'm not going to sit back and name all of the bands I listen too. It isn't worthwhile and all one has to do is do a proper Search and they'll see them. If you listen to "Jewish Princess", do you really have to wrap your mind around it?
The only "country" I'll listen to is Haggard, Cash, Hank Sr and Jr, with a bit of Randy Travis. That is it, the closest I get to Country is The Kinks Muswell Hillbillies.
Alice Cooper is another of my favorites.

I try and not go back in time too often. I grew up with those bands. Have you ever heard of a band called BeBob Delux? If not look them up. Then try and wrap your brain around what you hear.

Funny how all of you post bands that one can routinely tune to any FM/XM station and hear every 20 minutes(or less)..
I haven't seen anyone post anything like Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Zappa: Stuff that actually takes some thought to wrap your mind around..
Blue Cheer, now that's a blast from the past, love em, Zappa is pretty darn cool also.
ever heard of "The Crazy world of Arthur Brown"?
when Led Zeppelin was around they were far from Commercial, many many radio stations refused to play them, and they were banned from many cities!!

Who hasn't heard of BeBop Deluxe? If you've heard King Crimson, you've probably heard BeBop Deluxe...'
Not bad for prog-rock.. I have one of their "best of's" on cassette somewhere in the garage..
Might have to dig it up now and get the rest of their catalog..
If you grew up with those bands, I have other stuff you might get into....

I actually liked Blue Oyster Cult back in the early-mid 70's before they caved in with songs like "Don't Fear The Reaper" . Then they started to suck ! IMO that is. Trust me.... many people have not heard of BeBob Delux. It was hard to find people in the 70's that had.

I saw Hawkwind years and years ago at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
I think they were backed up by "Its a Beautiful Day".
Great show--hardly anyone there.
When the show was over, we walked around front and some chick (from one of the bands) was handing out free tickets to the midnight show.
I've seen Hawkwind twice!!
Anybody ever get into Gentle Giant, PFM, Atomic Rooster, Tangerine Dream, Medussa?
The stuff of my mis-spent youth! :rock
PS. I've seen Zeppelin, I love Zeppelin, but Jimi page is one tyhe most over rated guitar players EVER!!
See him live--he suks.

I agree about Jimmy Page , he isn't a live act, way to much mindless gutair fill for me. I guess you have to be stoned to appreciate it but now days I'm not stoned so it sounds like noise to me. I saw Robin Trower back in 75 and he isn't a live act either, again too much distortion and mindless fill for me .
I saw quite a few acts live a couple of summers ago and I was extremely impressed with Tom Petty's guitarist Mike Cambell . He is one of the cleanest live guitarist I have ever seen . Every note the guy strums has a place and that includes his solos. He doesn't play to just make a bunch of noise.

I dislike the majority of commercialized groups because of the music.. In most respects, it's simplified, dumbed-down bubble gum rock that is easily digested by an already indoctrinated consumer base..
I could care less about the image, however it is sad that image or past successes are relied upon to make up for serious lack in musicianship in these types of bands..
Some bands sport the musicianship as well as the image and they do it well.... Take for instance Jane's Addiction.. Now, those of you who have only heard songs like "Jane says" or "Been caught Stealing" really know nothing of this band, so don't bother to comment.. However, they are a perfect example of sporting a unique image as well as respectable musicianship.. They were innovators..
Most of the heavier commercial music you hear today exists because of Jane's Addiction's influence... Otherwise, we'd all still be listening to bands like Poison, Britney Fox, Winger, or worse..
Mind you, I'm not completely anti-corporate music.. There are some staples in music(as far as the rock genre is concerned) that one just has to accept as law....
And, Hawkwind isn't a household name????'
Anyway, my musical collection rivals most record stores.. At the moment I'm listening to this band: YOB.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GiEPwfWY0A&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GiEPwfWY0A&feature=related)
After that, I'll probably listen to these guys: Mojave3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpXqXnuivaY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpXqXnuivaY)
Maybe after that, I'll throw in some of this: Mogwai...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC_3alnTE9g (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC_3alnTE9g)
And then I'll go with some of this: Shrinebuilder....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL4BkunJqes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL4BkunJqes)
For any fans of the Melvins, Sleep or Neurosis will especially like this... Things get really broken down and interesting around 4:30...
I find very little(if any) bands with significant commercial success that can produce anything like these bands..
Why? Because their hands are tied.. They have to make what "sells" and that limits them.. The record company oligarchs seem to think stupid music for stupid people..
I don't think that people are as stupid as the record companies like to think.. They just aren't as informed to the benefit of big record..
In this aspect, you can consider me an insurgent trying to show you a better way...... :D

this is true of 90% of the bands out there.
-
I like bands that suck and no one has ever heard. Anything people like is crap because Im the only one who knows what good music is.
-
Aerosmith is obviously way past their prime. They will never outdo or come anywhere close to anything they have ever done in the past. So I guess my point is, who cares?
-

Yes, isn't it amazing what some bands cannot produce without a studio or "hired help"(session musicians) to assist them?
-
Make that 95%...what is considered popular today should be banned for pure stupidity.
Those are the only groups I agree as being major suxxors...otherwise you need to wash your mouth out with soap...Aerosmith rates up there with Led Zepplin and the Stones as legends in 20th century music...the crap that's being listened to today in most categories doesn't even rate mention.
thats why i go underground... lyrics are better than my favorite popular song... if you like rap, listen to lady liberty or kill Bill O'Reilly

Maybe the bass player will have time to start playing AH again. He used to be a long time AW player and used to play early AH until the rigors touring and recording put an end to it.

Really? I remember a player in AW named SKT who said he was in a popular band but never said anything more about it.

Yeah, I was at a promo party when Guitar Hero: Aerosmith was being developed and at the party he, along with the rest of the band, were being interviewed by a couple of gaming magazines. They were asked if they played games at all and they all said no but him. When asked what games he played, he said that he only had time now to play Flight Sim 2000 offline. They asked him if he liked flight sims and that's when he said that he used to play this online WW2 sim for a long time called Air Warrior and then started playing another one called Aces High but with the demands of touring and recording didn't leave him anymore time to play any games online. He never did say what his call sign was in either game and I was much too embarrased and intimidated to go up to him and ask. He was the only one too in the band that was really excited about Guiter Hero: Aerosmith coming out and was going to actually play it.

uumm.........aerosmith's "crappy" songs are lightyears better than 90% of the poop that passes for music today.
Recording a cat getting skinned sounds better than half the stuff you hear on the radio as well.

yea it is.
i've only ever been to a few concerts. elo when i was young. johnny cash when i was young. aerosmith when i was kinda young. tool a few years ago.
elo was disappointing. aerosmith was great. johnny cash was the best. tool sucked. well.....actually, i'm insulting bands that really do suck by saying that. i'm being nice. the suckage with tool is so far beyond description, it's frightening.

I was a HUGE fan of TooL when Opiate was released.. There was literally and musically nothing like it.. Again, they were one of those obscure bands all of the metal heads from Norway and Finland were talking about.. "Get that Bob Marley M'fer outa here".. I love that line....lol Anyhow, yeah.. So, when Undertow came out, I had the opportunity to see them live at Lolapalooza one year.. What a disappointment.. I'd actually seen them twice when Aenima came out.. The first show was pretty good as it was in a 2000 seat theater(Cleveland Agora).. The 2nd was at Ozfest and the 3rd at another Ozfest and yet another Lolapalooza All were a huge disappointment.. I have not seen them since, however I've seen lots live footage of past shows since their Aenima tour and am not impressed.. Actually, I'm not impressed with anything musically from them since Aenima.. I own the entire catalog as well as the Salival boxset.. I give Lateralus and 10,000 days a spin once in a while, but it just doesn't do it for me like their predecessors..

For me Tool started with Aenima. Undertow is just too dark and muddy, like The Downward Spiral or something. Good albums but unlistenable for me anymore. My fav is Lateralus. It has such a complete feel to it and imo that is when Tool was on top of the world. 10,000 Days was good and Vicarious imo is one of their best songs ever written. I've seen them live three times, but the last time I saw them on the 10,000 Days tour I was a little discouraged. Maynard's voice is fading for sure but they are still recognized as one of the best live acts in rock.
