Seeing as FSO probably sees more P-40 usage than anywhere else, this should be a good place to ask this question. Any P-40 pilots (besides me) get a left flap stuck in the down position due to combat damage during the past 2 frames? I know there was at least one other. It just seemed a bit more than coincidental.

From my experience in the P40 the flaps are are like radiators on 109s. It always seems to be the first thing hit. :)

I do when I fly the 40s in the MA. Then she can be a handful. At that point it be best to trim her out and RTB
-
What Larry said.
P.S. why were you dropping flaps in combat during this FSO? :P
-
Last night my P40E lost both flaps at the same time from one hit by a Zeke, no other damage. :headscratch:

That's how the flaps are meant to be now. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,277064.0.html

I like how the damage is modeled, I just think it's odd that the first time I ever got flap damage in a P-40 it was with them down one notch. Anyone ever have them damaged in the up position?
-
I find its best to lose a flap when they are up. It feels like when u lose a flap in the down position, the result of the damage is not that the flap is gone, its that the ghost flap remains, stuck in the position it was when it was lost. You cant see it, but its there.
Maybe its meant to feel like it the affect of when you lower your good flap, it feels funny with the other one missing, but to me it feels like the flap is still in the position it was when it got blown off. Try it sometime at flaps up, and again at full down when u take damage.
PS Flaps are the first to go on me...ALWAYS. 80% of the time left flap. Which is fine for me, because its still flyable, unlike a 109 whose radiator goes alot.

P40s have one of the earliest flight and damage models in the game. They have 1999-style graphics to boot!
The reason the flap goes first is because it's a bug/quirk of the plane. Same way the one wing gun on the old F6F went out first any time you ever took a hit.
If/when they're ever updated, expect the damage to be remodeled at that time.
As for flaps being blown off, ever since AH started, a flap "destroyed" is really "jammed" -- the graphic is just shown as blown off to let you know. It is an issue of much discontent amongst AH pilots for many years now, and we've requested changing how it works, requested additional damage states (working, jammed, gone, etc) but the main response to this "bug" is that "it's not a bug, it's a feature" (i.e. intentionally coded this way)

I really hope HT chimes in on this as Im sensing at least 45 Krustys on that one! :D

Excuse me?
You don't believe me? I couldn't care less. I've provided a factual and clearly worded response to a question that... frankly... I thought EVERYone knew about by now.
It's only been discussed since.... oh... AH came out. Read the forums once, before you start insulting and badmouthing me, please.

He's right.
You'll notice that on more recent models/updates the flaps don't disappear.

Damn Krusty......keep doing that more often and we might start expecting it!

This is what I was referring to.
When I shoot a P-40 I usually blast the pilot to kingdom-come or shoot his tail off. I believe the reason the flaps get knocked off is because in high-deflection shots they are the biggest chunk of the plane that can be hit and because most shots fall short of the shooters intended lead. Its just as easy to shoot the empennage of the plane off and its not always the flaps.
Thats the part I have to call BS on.

Ask anybody that ever flies the P-40 regularly. The flap always goes first, 99% of the time. If it's DOWN you're in a world of hurt.
Again, as far as I knew, everybody else already knew this, same as they knew the F6F always lost that same gun in the same wing every time it took damage the first time.
It's a common observation, and the fact you think to riducule me speaks more to your lack of experience with this aircraft in Aces High than it does of your "wit" or "humor"...

Anecdotal evidence at best.
