Title: Major PC Problem
Post by: 5PointOh on November 14, 2009, 03:17:19 AM
I recently had to do a reformat of my PC back to factory shipped condition.  That went well. Untill today, Windows updater suggested that I install Vista SP1 (1 of 5000 updates they have been sending since the reformat)  During the restart proceedure or install something must have gone wrong.  I am getting a black screen with two option.  Opt A. Repair mode Opt B. Restart Windows Normally.  Repair mode yeilds a blue screen that says "if the is the first time you have seen this restart the PC normally.  OK So I do that, the black screen comes back up.  Ok OptB, take me to the windows loading then reboots the pc back to the two options.  OK, tried that a couple of times.  Then I get an error that say "Operating System Missing". OK how, was just there  So I restart after installing the Dell supplied Vista Home Prem 32Bit OP Disc, press F8 and try to get the CD-ROM to read it...it says its reading it but the PC reboots.  OK lets try F8 and reboot in last known good config.  Nothing.  How about safe mode.  Nothing.

OK now am I a little upset, and at a loss.  I do not know where to go from here.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think service packs are a good reason to start over anyway.  :old:

change the boot order in your bios make sure CD is first .. do you have a floppy drive? most systems do not these days. turn it off in bios if applicatable.

if possible upgrade to windows 7 you'll thank yourself later
