Title: What Stick...
Post by: woodfordb on October 18, 2001, 03:34:00 PM
Hi,
about to buy a new stick.
Currently have the following....

MS Wheel (Use the pedels as rudders)
CH Products Flight Yoke Pro USB (Cant fly fighters with it, bomber are ok though)
Logitech Wingman Force.

Its the wingman im after replacing, its so un-responsive, think its cause its a first gen FF and can really feel the cables/gears.

So what im after is a Non- FF stick, preferably USB. What I dont want if I can help it is rudder on the stick, as I find this off putting, and im also getting some CH Products pro ruder/toe breaks.

My Shortless: -

CHP - F16 or 568 stick
Thrustmaster - Fighter Stick
MS Cheapo Freestyle 2 (Twist handle though)
Logitech Digital 3d (Twist again)

Any sugestions?

Cheers

responsiveness has nothing to do with the stick. its the stick scalling that has to do with the responsiveness. but as old as that is i would recomend getting a new one. i have the logitech wingman extreme digital 3d. its a good stick for the money. another cheap one but good is the microsoft sidewinder.

I would stay away from the Logitech, have 2 friends who have had theirs less than a year, both sticks have major probs, spiking falling apart, etc, not to push MS but this precision pro (twisty)of mine has lasted 2 yrs,is a little creaky but still working fine  :)

Get a Saitek X36/35, or an X45 setup, and just don't use the rudder on the throttle... for about the same money as the MS Prec Pro.

I've got the Saitek Cyborg Gold USB.  It is a very smooth stick and cheap too.  It has the twisty thing though, but I don't use it since I have CH pedals.

Whatever stick you get, don't worry about the twisty feature if you're not going to use it.  I think the Logitech has a locking mechanism to prevent twisting and the Cyborg is so stiff in the Z axis that it isn't a problem.

I have a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro for my main flying. They are pretty good sticks, I like them...

I have a Saitek X36 USB combo (X36F stick/X35T throttle) and CH USB Pro Pedals.  There is a driver out there from Stickworks that will let the Saitek's rudder rocker on the throttle co-exist happily with the CH pedals.  I got this setup with my new machine in January, when I went full USB, and it just rocks.  Easy to program, very smooth, it works great.
