Ok so I usally fly Spits, (due to the RAF Squad I am in), and I enjoy the spit, however I have always had a soft spot for the P51B, My first sortie in it, when it first came to AH I racked up 6 kills!!.
Since then I havent flown her much, however Iam thinking of going back into that wonderful bird.
Could you please post any tips on her, I think I know most, but would be grateful to hear your views.
Oh and also some points on Ground attack especially using rockets would be helpfull too.
Marcof, 249 / 2TAF.
( one thing is that in WB the 51's could always catch the 190's & 109's in there..is this the same in AH?) :)

At an ROC of 2.0 you'll out climb a Spit.
-
Marcof - You can't catch the Me 109G-10 or the Fw 190D-9. They are faster than you until you get really high. Obviously Ta 152 and Me 262 will outperform you too.
Don't count on outclimbing Spits either, unless you climb at 300 IAS. :)
It's got a bit of a performance "valley" between 17k and 22k. WEP has no effect on speed in that altitude range.
Never fly it in combat with 100% fuel. Burn off the Aux fuel tank before fighting.
It will get just about anywhere you want to go in the MA on 75% fuel. With drop tanks you can fly to Mars.
Performance charts here: http://www.hitechcreations.com/models/p51b.html (http://www.hitechcreations.com/models/p51b.html)
Read this one too, as the stuff about engine settings and limits applies to the B: http://www.hitechcreations.com/models/p51d.html (http://www.hitechcreations.com/models/p51d.html)
I use the following engine settings if I need to save fuel:
Climb, or Very Fast Cruise: 46" Hg, 2700 RPM.
Fast Cruise: 36" Hg, 2400 RPM.
Best Fuel Economy: 2000 RPM and manifold pressure set to maintain 205 IAS.
Rockets: The tubes stay on after you fire the rockets so it slows you down, makes the plane climb worse, and gives it a bit of a "wobbly" feel. So I avoid them. But they work just like the rockets on other US planes. Diving attack works best. If you dive to steeply or at a very high speed you'll need to actually aim below the target.

I was looking for christmas presents last night and i stumbled upon a book called Mustang which was about 100+ pages and all about P51 variants. Lotsa pics both color and B&W. Looked to have a lot of info as well, like paper fuel tanks and a lightweight variant made partly of plastic. Should I buy it?

Thx Funked that was what I was looking for

Good candidate for Wit of the Week!
For an extra bonus, who can identify the literary technique he used? C'mon, make your old English teachers proud. I'll give you a hint, it starts with "H".

Ham Sandwich?

Why not fly the model D? And your squad should let you fly that since it has Brit engine in it :)
