Hi, I'm just curious to know what everyones favorite plane to fly is when ENY forces them to pick inferior aircraft. My favorites are the A6M2 and the F4F-4 if attacking from a CV and the C202 and 38G if on land....whats yours?
-
That's the beauty of the Yak. ENY or not, it's a great ride.
-
190A-5, 38G, A65MB....just to name a few
-
B-25H, a 109, Seafire, earlier marks of some fighters, e.g. Spitties, F4Us, P-47s, sometimes a Yak.
To be honest, there isn't any particular plane I really fly a lot other than the B-25...
-
109G-2 :rock
-
when ENY forces them to pick inferior aircraft.
inferior? Oh, you mean something other than a cannon firing, super fast, quick turning, ultra climbing, I has mad skills in this plane, dweeb ride?
Never happens as I don't fly those planes. :airplane:
-
P-38.... to be honest ENY never affects me.
-
P-38.... to be honest ENY never affects me.
Bingo!
-
I generally fly the Bf 109F-4 or Bf 109G-6 anyway. ENY never gets to 30.
-
Fly German Iron and there's a plane for every job no matter where ENY is at. 109G-2 & F-4 can take on any fighter. :old:
-
Yak with eny, Yak without eny :aok
-
I'm almost always on the team with the lowest numbers so it doesn't affect me
-
f4u1a if the eny isnt to high
-
Mosquito
-
When ENY gets you DOWN, what do you UP?
They have little blue pills for that nowadays, you know?
-
go to low numbers and fight the horde :aok
-
I've been flying the P-38G and P-39D for the past couple tours, what's ENY? :)
-
I fly the 51B mostly, hardly ever does ENY bother me. And if chance it made it to 20+, P-40E is my second favorite plane in AH.

Good choice on the P-40!
And, as an alternative suggestion, I doubt ENY has ever been high enough, in all its existence, to disable you from flying the C.202, folks!
-
Envy never gets me down.
Never be jealous of others, be happy for them me mum always said

From the Pwny handbook.

Ki61 is a good plane for crap ENY, just don't light a match or smoke in it.

This is the best answer I've seen so far. :aok
-
When ENY gets to the point I cant fly my Spit 16 and HO ppl I come to the BBS and whine about it of course!!!!111!!!11!!
-
40 of the 63 fighters available are ENY 20 or more, ENY should never be a problem.
My personal top five for this tour so far:
Yak-9U
Ki-84-Ia
Brewster B-239
I-16
C.205
The first sub-20 ENY birds on my 'kills in' list are tied for 10th with the F4F-4.
ENY? ENY? We don't need no stinkin' ENY.
-
Spit 9 or 190-A5
-
La5FN

MUHAAA! :rofl :headscratch: :old:

Never concerned about eny. Dont even know what it is most of the time.
To many "great" 20eny+ airplanes in the game to even care. Not just "good" but "great".
Mostly Ive been in Yaks but you never know when a P-38 craze will hit you. I think the Brewster is a fine fighter for base defense.
-
the mosquito rarely has a problem with ENY so i get to fly my favortie plane whatever.
-
It seems that there is a lot of people replying with some variation of, "Gee, I fly a high ENY ride all the time, a ride that I've got down absolutely so that I can win, so it doesn't affect me at all," which is not exactly what the question was pointing to. :) While that may feel somehow virtuous ("I fly a crappy plane and I still win!"), its pretty well known that a good pilot can win a broad range of planes so it doesn't really prove anything. We gravitate toward rides that "fit" us somehow, despite what the ENY rating is. I think it would be fairly unusual for someone to use the ENY list to go to the worst plane to fly, which from this point of view would be the ultimate of virtue. Having said that I know that someone will pop up and say, "That's exactly what I do!" Maybe so, but its rare.
Based on the ENY changes we've been seeing, ENY has little to do with relative performance and everything to do with relative popularity. If the plane starts to be understood and flown well by a sufficiently large group, it will draw a low ENY. The settings for ENY are subjective and not objective, otherwise it would be simple to publish the criteria and let everyone take a look at it.
Does ENY exist to keep the uber performers to a minimum? Nope, we have the perk system for that.
Personally, with no disrespect to HT and company, I think that ENY is a totally failed system that absolutely doesn't do what is purported to do (even out the effects of numbers in an arena). The idea is nice but the actual execution seems to break down at every opportunity. Just this Sunday evening, I was on when the Knights were outnumbered by 20 (Rooks) and 40 players (Bishops) respectively. The ENY penalty for the Bish? 4.3 This was effectively nothing.
On the other hand I've been on when the numbers were the other way and been hit by ENY of 20+. This tells me at least that the thing doesn't work reliably. There is something wonky in the code is failing. As such, it only works to tick people off, which I doubt is the desired outcome. If it is a reliable and impartial system it should work evenly. It doesn't and acts to keep a set of players, unintentionally, in the hole.
Side switchers aside, I think the most common reaction is to change arenas or leave, which again, is not what its supposed to do. So if the dang thing doesn't work, why keep it?
Put another way, who would really shed a tear if ENY went away? If the majority of the players aren't active proponents, why does it exist? I have yet to hear anyone say something to the effect of, "thanks tall that is holy, there's ENY!"
Just a thought.
-
I love eny.

True.
Seems like half the threads here somehow turn into ' I flies a toejam plane for remtards on free dinners, im so SUPER SKILLED ELITE '
Personally I enjoy the earlier mark P 47s during high ENY periods.

almost always in a 38J, thus unaffected by eny. if it does hit me, i take a 38G. if i can't get that, then zeek, or bombers.
-
I love eny.
So do I.
-
Eny is great , Love them 190's and 109's Flt them alot regardless of Eny, It's funny watching people who have never flown a plane like that :joystick: , they usually become Bait real fast. :rofl
-
Mossie, p47d40 or B5N

The question was what do I up when ENY is in effect, or something close to that. My answer does not suggest I am so wonderfully skilled and that's why eny does not effect me, you are reading too much into people's reply, methinks. My reply simply states that my favorite plane also happens to be one that is not bothered by ENY limitations. That does not mean I do well in it, it just means I still fly it whatever ENY is set at. Fair statement?
-
What you fly should depend on more than just what the ENY is telling you. Honestly...

P-38.... to be honest ENY never affects me.

There's a 45 perk 262 on rooks in that picture.

Quick... flush the toilet or something your stuck in a time warp! :D
-
Was that a "Day of the Tentacle" reference? :aok
I don't think folks branch out enough in this game. You get people that say "I only fly the P-51D and nothing else!" and similar variations of fill-in-the-blank. I just wish ENY kicked in sooner than it does now. If people fly planes they don't normally they might accidentally have some fun.
Somebody mentioned the P-40E earlier... It's an interesting plane, historically speaking. I love the thing in real life. In this game it's rather sub-par most of the time, but sometimes you just need an excuse to take a historically interesting ride up and not worry about your comfort zone or surviving the sortie. It's a fact you'll never see the top 10 ranked players get most of their kills in one, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't learn to fly it once in a while.
Hell, you never know if FSO, scenarios, snapshots, duels, KOTHs, anything, might call for you to know -- just a little -- how to fly it.
-
My favorite rides are all German. I'm usually not affected by this.
BUT if ENY gets high enough... I just slide down the scale of German planes. Can't up a K4 or a D9? A5, G6, G2, F4 all suit me well.
And to address Rapier, no this is not about skill. At one point I thought "omg, I would own if I could get into a Spixteen..."
Then JG11 had costume night on Halloween. I upped a Spixteen all excited. LOL I make TERRIBLE decisions in that plane (as well as most Allied rides). I don't think I even got a kill in the Spit16. Ever since that night, I've been quite relieved of my false pretenses that I'm better because my planes are higher ENY. It's really just taste, very hard to describe.

I tend to have a real crappy time in the 16 as well

Il-2. Actually, the only thing I've been stopped from flying in the past month or two was when I was using an AR-234 to keep the knit coast blind and one of our megaskwads logged out.
EDIT:
Envy never gets me down.
I don't know why, but it REALLY bothers me when somebody calls it that. I feel like punching 1carbine in the face every time he does.
-
I just keep on flying my Ki61.

I havent seen anything to suggest this, people do get confused between relative and absolute numbers when looking at ENY tho.
I fly knits in LW and cant honestly remember the last time we had an ENY restriction, although things would have to be pretty bad to stop me flying usual rides Spit IX or D25. With ENY>20 it doesnt really matter what you're flying since you have such a massive numbers advantage...
-
Ki 84 , Spit 9, 109's (shock /horror), ki61, LA5.
If things are really tight 109G2 at 30+ is best bang for buck. All of these planes are deadly in the right hands so ENY only effects my toolshedding abilities.

:old: Back in the day I used KI61 as answer to my favorite ride being ENY grounded. It carries bombs, long fuel endurance and got nasty arsed cannon. After a while I just used it even if ENY wasn't in effect. It's a great plane as is the Yak 9U, P4711, Mossie, F4u and just for fun C202 and D3a. Those last 2 are mad turners but weak gunned so set close convergence and get it close when firing or you'll end up with loads of assists :lol
Again :old: ENY isn't really a problem unless your a strat player. ENY will effect what ORDNANCE you can carry. Example of what I mean.... F6f can knock out a VH in 1 pass but a TBM can't.... especially if there's plenty of fighters about. So when ENY'ed down to carrying 1 bomb on a F4 you'll need to coordinate with others or have a squaddie / friendly bomber take out the VH.
ENY = ORDNANCE = Cooperation.
As for ENY being unfair and favouring 1 side more than another.....it's complete bollocks. ENY side balance calculation is fixed on player percentage. I have no idea what formula HTC uses.
176 Bishops
150 Knights
= 85% knights to Bishop numbers.... bishopes won't suffer much if any ENY with 26 more. players.
55 Knights
37 Bishops
=67% Bishops to Knights numbers.... knights will get ENY with 18 more players.
I really shouldn't need to explain this other than to say when one side is vastly outnumbering another, percentage wise, expect ENY.
-
I always switch sides when the sides get unbalanced so the better question for me is, what plane do I up to perk farm for jets. 109G6, C205, 109G14 are my favs.
-
Yak is always fun. The T model can even kill tanks if need be! I will always have a Spitfire to fly though, I always love killing everyone while in a Spit 1 !! :D
-
P-38.... to be honest ENY never affects me.
Ah first I fly a 38 then when eny comes into effect I jump into a 38.
-
I fly low numbers so ENY is hardly an issue. But then again, I fly the 38 so its no concern. If ENY is too high, I may occasionally jump into a P47 for a change of pace.
-
I tend to have a real crappy time in the 16 as well
Phew... I thought I was the only one. I looked at a spit the other day in the hangar and it immediately went into an inverted flat spin. :)

i forgot about that....i've finally seen the light about switching to the lower number side...and coincidentally, i've not had to deal with eny since. :D
-
Eny works well.... I like it.
-
Pee-Fawty...I dont think ENY has ever been an issue. Maybe once, but seeing if it was denied, there couldnt have been any fights worth fighting anyways.
-
Yak, K-4, SpitIX, P-38s are pretty clearly the most LW competitive high-ENY planes. Especially the K4...that its ENY continues to be 20 is insane, really.
-

With the exception of the new 47M, I also never really fly anything with an ENY lower than 15 so I almost never find having to up something dont want to..

I don't fly when it goes up,i come here and post the 300'th topic on how ENY sucks. :cry
-

Woops, didn't realize it was 20. Did that change from 15 to 20 with the last great ENY change?
I like the plane, fly it a lot, but the main weakness (and it's a fairly big one) is poor visibility. Poor dive doesn't help either and neither do poor ballistics, especially for the MA environment.
-
The 109K has always been 20 ENY. I have to agree with BnZ in this case, I'd put it at 10-15 before 20.
-
LOL I guess the only planes that I fly which are ENY affected are the Dora (very rarely) and 262 (which I up about once a month anyways) then.
-

Crap im a noob. :(

The fact that the tater is one-shot lethal and that the 109K is both fast enough and maneuverable enough to saddle up right on alot of airplane's tailpipes (The omnipresent P-51s for instance) makes up for the ballistics deficiencies.

Well not only are the ballistics marginal, but so are the bullet spread and ammo load on the tater. It's the combination of these three traits which makes it a difficult gun to learn - long time of flight/low muzzle velocity, low ammo load/firing time, and dispersion pattern.
It's definitely not my first choice among the available 109 guns packages. I think you even mentioned you prefer the 152 because it's almost 50% extra ammo on the tater - the extra rounds make a huge difference because one is less afraid to take longer snapshots for fear of wasting the precious few available taters.
I'm not really arguing about the ENY (hey, I thought it was at 15), but the 109K does have its deficiencies. Fortunately they suit my flying/fighting style and don't detract from it much.

I switch to the side with lower numbers.

I die spectacularly in any plane, ENY makes no difference.
