warbirds lol no thanks
-
Bah... I never liked the AI flown planes in WB... Always sucked that they could turn more tightly and shoot much better than any real player.
I'll pass.
I wonder if they noticed that HTC has given up on "Combat Tour" for now, and they stepped in with one of their own? See a niche, fill a niche?
-
Wow... they even have the dreaded "MeBf-109" :D
-
looked at there website heres there online numbers right now in each arena..
MAIN 56
Armored Assault 23
World War 2 2
Dawn of Aces 1
S3 Squad Select Series 1
Special Training Arena 1
Training 1
Practice and Dueling 0
UMMM i think Hitech has nothing to worry about, there WW1 arena looked cool thou. one month for free, it might take a month to find a fight with those numbers
-
How many dresses can you put on the same hooker?
-
Dogfights, a single-player game, takes flight in January on PC
pass
:joystick:

"and only your altitude, speed, and your steely self-control will keep you alive on the Ace level! Get in some shots and get out or you die!"
In other words RUN picker, RUN!
-
LOL...funny that they're using a distributor known for only working with low-budget titles. Fitting match for Wild Bill.
ack-ack

56 in the main is big for them, but wwi on Friday night is OK
-
i played warbirds like a year ago.
The game is alright. But you will notice this if you go to it.
going from AH to WB's is like going from a T body to a Lambo.
The game moves that fast.
-
Do they still count the AI drones in that number like they used to? If so, that 56 could really be 20 or so real players. :devil
Either way, another short sighted money grab by mild dill.
-
nah. and
the most people on during a time when i played was 150. that was including 20 or so AI.
-
Actually, the numbers are getting smaller than you think...that 56 in the main arena is about the max for any time these days. If this "new thing" Wild Bill is trying to market has the same flight models and weapons Warbirds has right now...don't waste your time even reading the label.
Big Donkey
Unless they got an outside programmer to do it, the only other person who was supposedly doing any of the programming (and still learning) for Warbirds just quit...and there is still a "hanging promise" of a much needed update that is supposed to fix the super uber F4U-4 they tweaked earlier this year as well as some slight mention of other fixes.
-
I will not even look at the "Competitor". HTC will get my money.
-
i can say this from experiance.
Once you Fly AcesHigh you will never find anything better.
-
:rofl I just noticed this...
Bonus Deal: Dogfight players get free 30-day trial of MMOG WarBirds
Wait, so I have to pay $29.95 to get a free month when the (ancient) Warbirds website says this on the front page? :huh
sign up for a free one month account
LMAO!!! Talk about marketing misdirection.
-
huuuumh.....................y ou cant polish a turd.

"adrenaline-pumping missions for the bravest of gamers. "
there are brave gamers?

We all know Aces High is the better game but I recall WB offline AI being a far better experience than AH's off line drones (shock, horror). I have wondered on a number of occasion why HTC didn't use a replica of WB offline experience. Was it too legally protected or perhaps that wasn't HTC field?
I think the point that everyone is missing is good marketing.
Think IL-2. It's in or is available in every game shop. I've even seen IL-2 give the disc away with related pro mo's. It isn't what I call MMOG either with a capped 36 man arena's or whatever the number is.
Think Microsoft COMBAT flight sim. Jesus! even I have one of these...a Christmas present about 6 or 7 years back. That thing was a good seller in the game shops but the playing experience was SOOOOO repetitive. None the less it sold in the millions.
As much as we wouldn't play WB you just can't knock the business strategy. So simple really. Have a disc cut and boxed for a few bucks (ello China). Tie in a distribution / marketing company. Share in the disc sales and eventually keep all the online subscribers....KaaChing.
In sales terms that disc is the HOOK to the online experience. Every new purchaser knows he has a free month. It doesn't matter that the offer is already available. The purchaser didn't know in the first place....why else would he purchase a disc for a game that's already downloadable.
This is what I thought HTC would have to do with Combat/Tour megga mission thingy-me-bob that they have on the back burner. I couldn't see it being worth their while if it wasn't pro mo'ed to the masses on a disc.
-
huuuumh.....................you cant polish a turd.
Actually you can, but in this case there are no techniques that would be able to do it.
-
The article says Bill Stealey produced Warbirds. I guess that's technically correct, yes?
It would be more accurate to say he bought it, killed it, then tried to reinvent it.
-
Just watched the trailer here
http://igs-games.com/
Cant say Im overly impressed.
And other then the road convoy in the background of one scene
I cant really say Im impressed at all.

Unless Milddill Stealey got a degree in programming, bought out "Target:Where?" or will outsource
the game to Oleg and friends I wouldn't count that dog till you hear it bark! I just don't think there's
anyone left at iEN but the amazing and stupendous Wildpill himself and possibly the janitor at this point.

"To my WarBirds / TotalSims family and friends,
Today, I am announcing my retirement from IEN.
Over the past almost 10 years, I have had the privilege and honor of serving the WarBirds
Community in almost every conceivable position from basic Techsupport to Producer and
Designer. Meeting many of you at Cons in the US and Europe or talking to you by phone,
email, Roger Wilco or Teamspeak has been one of the many highlights of my time with IEN.
Working with a legend in the business (WLDBIL) and the other almost countless contributors
to the game including Dan Hammer, Kent East, Tony Hepler, Matt Davis, Chris Cottrell, Sherry
Miracle, Phil Hall, Chris Wall and many other talented folks was icing on a very tasty cake!
If I listed all I have to thank, the forum might just crash, so to all of you I extend a heartfelt
and sincere Thank You, Salute and Blue Skies!
There are many good improvements on the way that we have worked on in the past months
and you have a lot to look forward to as "WarBirders".
Always Best Regards,
Tim SKYDVR Metcalfe "

Some people still really like the offline duels against all the various aircraft. This guy has written extensively about them in his site:
The Pilot's Flying Guide to W.W. I and W.W. II Aircraft (By Chuck Hawks)
To read this, go to chuckhawks.com, Naval and Military History, Combat Flight Simulations, then the flying guide.
After I told Chuck about Aces High, he tried AH and modified his article to at least mention AH. But his focus remains on Warbirds and all the offline duels.
Chuck is a super detail guy with much expertise in guns, cameras, astronomy, and various other topics. Check out his site. Well worth your time.
