With the UAC probs I've been having I decided to reinstall my OS, putting it all together now piece by piece, so far so good until I downloaded AH2160.EXE, every time
I clicked on the icon I rec'd the following msg:
C:\Hitechcreations\Aces High\AH2160.EXE is NOT a valid Win 32 application!
This sounds like an antivirus problem or a corrupt file, thereby I TURNED OFF my firewall
& my antivirus programs. I downloaded AH2160 from the AH Games page on 3 different downloadings Ie, download.hitechcreations.com; download1.hitec...etc & on www2.hi-
techcreations.com/news/releases/216patch0.html, all were run & downloaded to seperate areas, yet every time I clicked on the icon ... I kept getting that above mentioned Error Msg. Any1 have a solution to this problem?
-
I believe the way to fix this is to uninstall it and remove any and all files associated with AH as well as empty your TEMP folder. Then download a fresh copy and reinstall.
-
Did you delete the corrupted download before trying to download it again?
Which anti-virus are you running? Some cannot be turned off, or disabled, in Vista, even if they have that option.
-
Yes, I erased the downloaded corrupted file using Revo to make sure all traces are wiped clean, cleaned my system, CCleaner & Malware. Removed my firewall & antivirus, named 'Rising'. No virus' nor malware found, everything's squeaky clean.
Downloaded AH2160.exe from AH site, ran it & unfortunately :uhoh the problem's
still alive & well. Seems that I traded one(1) set of problems for a new set of problems with "Reinstalling", now I even show zero (0) for my display adapter.
Opened Device Mgr> display adapters>obtained the following error msg: "Standard
VGA Graphics Adapter - Code 10 "(C:\Windows\system 32\DRIVERS\vgaprp.sys) by
Microsoft Windows v 6.0.60001.18000..
Without backing up my prior system, is there ANY way possible for me to "REVERT
BACK" to the old system? Btw ran a DXDIAG, found nothing under Display :(
-
that sounds like your video card isn't installed. Run the Dxdiag again and post the new report... well the first third of it.
-
Fugitive: Thx much for ur reply, unable to post DXDIAG on AHII BBS, because I don't know how, no probs of emailing things to emails. To make a long story short, here's what my specs used to be: Display Devices
Card name :ATI Radeon HD 4570
Mfg: :ATI Technologies Inc
Chip Type :ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x9490)
Dac Type :Internal DAC (400MHz)
Device Key :Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9490&SUBSYS_15901462&
REV_00
Display Memory:1913 mb
Dedicated Memory:507 mb
Shared Memory:1406 mb
Current Mode:1024 x 768 (32 bit) (85Hz)
After Reinstall:
Display Devices: (everything's blank)
Really created a bigger & costlier $$$ problem for myself.

Easy to post a Dxdiag. First run it :D then in the lower right of the Dxdiag window is a button to "save as text", click that and save it to your desktop or some place easy to find....My Documents is good too. Double click the new file you just saved to open it, notepad is good if it asks you what to open it with. Then click and drag your mouse over the first third.... first 8 or 9 headings it lists... right click and select "copy". Then open the BBS reply window, right click in the message field and select "paste". :aok
Thats it.

--- Dunno, tried 3 times & all I got were the 3 dashes on the left

See the section in the display devices? Your computer does not have the native video card driver installed. The computer is running with the stock VGA driver, which does not support DirectX.
-
Thx for the reply Skuzzy, however, this question begs to be asked, prior to my Vista Reinstall, ALL my hardware & display devices were working.
After the reinstall I've the Display Devices missing, the card "ATI Radeon HD
4670" & accessories DISAPPEARED, however the hardware is still present!?
How or can I re-enable the Display Devices to make AHII work, what's the
best solution for me? Should I purchase a new card & if so, what do u re-
commend, pls provide the "Why ... What ... When ... How??
Thx for ur kind attention to this query & answer to the disappearing display
devices.
-
If you have the disk that came with the ATI card you could pop that in. It should come up with an interface for you to click on "install drivers". Click it and follow directions. It should get your card up and running as long as the card is good. It WILL NOT load the most recent drivers, but it should run with the older ones ok.
After you have loaded the drivers run the DXdiag again to see if it changes the "Display Devices" section. under card name it will say ATI Radeon HD 4570. along with listing other info. IF it does try the game again.

THX ... THx ... Thx Fugitive :D I'm eternally grateful to u for ur erudite ad-
vice  I followed ur suggestions verbatim & was rewarded by my
being able to fly again on AHII :airplane:, my display devices are back again ... molto grazie :x The system is working well. What a relief.
You're indeed a scholar, a gentleman & a credit to every1. :aok

Glad it worked out for ya ! :aok
