Are all the skins historical or are there a few exceptions?
-
http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/skins.html
Some basic guidlines:
•We will not accept skins containing the swastiska. NOTE: If you are making a skin that originally had a swastiska, just leave the spot blank where the swastiska would have been, or change the swatiska to the Iron Cross. Use your best judgement on this.
•We will not accept skins that alter the overall shape of the object.
•We will only accept skins that were historically used in World War II.
•Only submit the files/skins you actually change from the original.
•The text description file must be named by the object name, such as p51d.txt for a P51D skin, for example.

Oh. Ok.
I was just wondering. Remember hearing somewhere that there was a few non historical skins. Couldnt remember the source.
Thats why I asked.
-
There are no non-historical skins in the MA, or rather there shouldn't be......
However special events occasionally require substitute skins to be done, usually a historical scheme for a plane not yet modelled by AH that is skinned onto whatever AH plane fits it best.

There are some "innacurate" skins, some Yaks come to mind.

Nothing nonhistorical or inaccurate about it. IIRC it was used as high alt intercept or armed recce.
I'm sure one of those spittards can go into more detail. :P

PRU (photoreconnaissance units) used pink spits. their most famous pilot was called, amusingly, Maurice "Shorty" Longbottom :D

There are a couple 109 skins that have the swastika.. :headscratch:

For the sake of explaining, go look closer at the 'swastika'

It is indeed a swastika not a 'swastika'
The blue swastika (Von Rosen Cross) was the roundel of the Finnish Air Force from its inception in 1918 or 19 or whenever until 1945.

Wow... That's really unfortunate! Poor guy! :D

Actually the pink Spits were low level PR birds. There is a nice Spit I in that paint, and the Spit IX both done by Kev367 with a little history help from my book shelves. Both retained their guns for the low level armed recce role.
-
ahhh so the blue/grey PRU spits were for high level recce? do we have any of these skins ingame?
-
The pink was a type of color meant to be the hardest to "lock onto" against the haze of the sky at distance. The blue was for carrier ferrying, and mostly associated with the Malta shipments of spitfires, if I remember.
Totally different purposes, but camoflague nonetheless.
