Title: finished terrain/testers wanted
Post by: danny37 on November 23, 2009, 06:52:41 AM
been workin on this terrain for quite a while now and want to put it out for peolpe to check out and get some feedback.
it is the island of oahu, but for you nitpickers it is not and was not intended to be HISTORICALY correct, merely modeled
to island itself without some of the smaller islands that are around it.it was made for the AVA with bases pretty close
so that shorter flights to good fights could be made possible.those of you familiar with the AVA know what im talking about.
i used a custom runway and tarmac and asphalt to give it a different look than what were used to.i had originally put some
crusiers in the harbor around ford island but that proved to cause a bug in the build so i deleted them :cry, not to mention
very deadly to fly by :devil
anyway check it out and lets hear the likes/dislikes,im sure there will be both :salute

Downloading now Danny.

Edit:  Flew around on it a lil while.  Looks pretty good.  I would recommend adding PT boat spawn points & changing the water color.  IMO it's too bright blue & "fake" looking.  Try to find a color that matches your shallow water better.  Jusy my opinion of course. :salute

i done a couple different water colors though they look about the same

i thought about some pt spawns but this is a terrain for the AVA hopefully, the people that are in that arena the most are rarely in gvs let alone pts at least the times ive been in there.so im not sure putting pt spawns in would be of much of a plus to most.i could be wroung though. :salute

Looked at your terrain again danny.

My personal opinion would be to move your TG's further out to sea, and give them a larger patrol area.
If your terrain is accepted and built for the AvA,let the players adjust the waypoints.
Also I think the PT-Spawns would be a good Idea. Try to think in terms of, someone else
using the terrain other than just in the AvA.
Like maybe a snapshot event, or a squad using it for some type of practice.

As far as the water color, I think it looks fine just the way it is.

These are all just my personal opinions and not meant as criticism or official guidelines.

I checked out your terrain last night, I have one thing I might add if I could do it. Mt killawea (I hope that's how its spelled). If you could get together with Ranger how about making some lava coming down the mountain.

The first thing I noticed is that the water is blocky. Why not smooth it out so it doesn't look like the old 1x1mile tiles?

ok i moved the TGs further out with a wider patrol area.
but it seems the pt spawns are bugged,at least for me,having some problems with them.posted the problem in the terrain editor bugs section.
i like the water color myself so i think ill leave it as is :salute

I updated my terrain, added pt spawns to coastal bases, moved TGs farther out to sea with a wider patrol range, left the water the original color as it seemed to look better imo than changing it to a lighter color to match the light colored water close to the beaches.there was a big difference in the look of it and imo just did not look as good as the bright blue. :salute

Very nice job, I wish we could have ocean details like those you had on the coast thru the whole ocean, that's like sub quality water!

Thats what I mean. It looks like all the water is still using the 1x1 mile settings.

Your water looks like this.

When it could have detail like this.

In other words, the coastlines are all squared off Danny.  I would look more realistic if you curve those out.

One other thing.  I think the AvA only use historically accurate terrains.  You may want to post in their forum & find out.  If so, maybe you could ask some of the different SEA events if they would be interested.  If you placed lots of towns made from our new city objects near the fields, I know the racing league would love something like that.  Just a thought.

no,AVA terrains do not have to be historically accurate. :salute

I'll take your word for it then.  I've never seen them use anything else.  Good luck. :salute

The word is given...

 ;)

Historical maps are nice but we also use non-historical from time to time.  avasml is a good example of a map we have used a few times.

Just wish we had more of them...

Well hell Soda, if I'd known that I would've submitted plenty of terrains by now.  Good to know.
