Title: 109G6 Roll Rate
Post by: MANDOBLE on March 21, 2001, 04:01:00 AM
Yesterday I was testing some planes in the MA and got horrified by the 109G6 roll rate at any speed. The loadout was 2x13 + 1x30 + 75% fuel, and it took an ethernity to roll 180 degrees. It is me or any of you has noticed this effect already.

Sorry to say, but the 109G wasnt famous for its rolling, in fact it was no great roller, especially at high speed the controls got very heavy.

S!

The roll rate was not as good as the Fw190 or Allied planes, but good enuf. The roll should take about 3 seconds and with help of rudder should be a bit better. This is from test data from 1943/44 made by FAF with G-2.With gondolas the roll was about 1 second longer.Haven't tested how long it takes in AH yet...

The gondolas should only affect the initial roll.  Once you get the momentum going, they shouldn't effect the roll rate.

A touch of rudder makes a HUGE difference when rolling any of the 109s... IMO

Camo..The start of roll was a bit slower with gondolas, that's why the "about".The difference was not big,but anyway there was some.Oh well..I don't care, don't use the gondolas anymore.

I've only really flown the G10 and a bit of G6, but they seem pretty close in performance, with the G10 being a bit quicker in most respects (control wise).  On the other hand, one of those guys from air squadron (can't remember who just now) did some amazing scissors work on me in a G6 a few weeks/months ago...  and I was in a 190A5...

...but as I've mentioned, I really suck, so it could just be that... hehe
