Title: Black friday purchases
Post by: Meatwad on November 27, 2009, 08:30:05 AM
What did others get today?

Myself I was looking at getting a 32" samsung 720p for under $400. Too bad for me that they was completely wiped out of them in 5 minutes. Was looking at the 1080p version, but the ratings on that were less then I would be comfortable with. Dont have the room for a 40" so looks like I will wait until after the new year when they are rumored to drop in price greatly in 2010

Shop online!

I just ordered for my wife and her sister a 32" Panasonic that they want to give to their
mother for Christmas. Got it on Amazon.com for $399 and no taxes or any shipping fee
Never had to get off my arse! Great reviews too. We have a 42" from the same Panasonic
line which we bought last Christmas the same way (on sale for $649) and love it.

42" Plasma at Sams club for 548$. Went to Wal-Mart, found out that the model we were looking at isn't on sale till tomorrow. Went home, researched some more, ended up going back to Sams Club.

Ohh and a Blue Ray player to go with it courtesy of my daughter (Early Christmas present)

Well worth getting up early IMO.

A pair of paratrooper pants, a compass, and a cargo strap to hold my gear.  It's good to get out of the house from time to time.

Costco had the 32" 720p Samsung for $380 I think it was. You can order online offer good until 11/30. I'm debating on pulling the trigger on this one myself. Plus Costco doubles the manufacturers warranty, and they have a 90 day return policy.

I did get an auto darkening welding helmet for $60 from Tractor Supply, getting ready to go try it out now. :)

Sig Sauer Mosquito .22 from Academy sports. Gun counter was a freaking zoo. They nixed tax on their guns for today and tomorrow. $300 out the door for the gun + 525 rounds. Needed a plinker BAD. 45 isn't the most cost effective "play" round.

Guess I'll just wait until the superbowl sales and get one locally then. I don't deal well with bs like what you described.

I do like my new welding helmet though. :aok

I bought an Oh-Gee-You deck with a holo-foil Egyptian God card added on from the local comic store; an hour later, I auctioned it off to some 5th graders at a 150% increase of what this stuff cost me. The rare card came with my subscription to Shonen Jump, around 2.50 monthly, and the deck cost $13.83. Total cost to me, $16.33

It does count as a Black Friday purchase, I had to buy the Oh-Gee-You deck!

I got a cheapo slim external DVD burner for my netbook, a cheapo BD drive for my HTPC, and a tiny little RC P-51.  You know, essential stuff I just couldn't afford until they went on sale.

My wife got some useless crap we don't really need   :noid

I wouldn't have went shopping today if they were handing out $1000 bills. And I worked 12 hours, then went deer hunting then watched football.

Hope it works out for you.  I was considering one of those, but ran across quite a few really bad reviews of it.  Let us know, I'm never sure if I should trust reviews.

That's the spirit! LOL. I was at hunting camp. Probably wouldn't have woken up at 5AM if they were givin rifles away.

Well, maybe, but if they were .22's, probably not.

I left work at 130pm, drove 40 minutes to the farm, and then got to hunt 3 hours in a driving snow. I didn't see anything but was pure bliss. No noise, no people...no deer, just the hush of the woods in a snow.

Same thing up at our camp...except the snow was rain (even though was supposed to be snow) and it was windy as all get out. Sucked for hunting as I bet the deer weren't moving much. I did, however see two deer yesterday. They were bolting though.

Only bucks I've seen have been ones I've almost ran over plus a nice 8 point on the way home today.  Did kill a 35lb coyote Tuesday and a yearling doe on Wednesday (the tenderloin was excellent).

I've killed a 225lb 7 point and that's it.  My dad killed a 7 point a week later, younger deer though, and I had the pleasure of watching him kill it (our stands are in the same field) after I had rattled him out of the woods.

Other than that I enjoy being in the woods regardless of what I see.

Almost all the bucks on our farm are young.  However of the 15 or so different bucks the have seen since spring only 2 have been harvested (a 6 and a 3).  The others are AWOL.  Part of the problem is lack of hunter activity.  My stand overlooks are creekbottom that borders a neighboring property that is a hunting club.  I usually have 4-wheelers moving constantly across the hill that push alot of deer over the fence to me. This year I have yet to see a single hunter over on that hill.

We're not seeing as many deer either.  Right before season we were seeing groups of 10-15 does.  Now, we're lucky to see one.  We have seen a few small bucks, but none of the big deer have been seen.

The Sig Mosquito is an interesting little gun. Accurate as all get out. It's reliability is a little questionable though. It's only had like 20 rounds through it too though. I'll be fixing that tomorrow. I think the main problem with it not wanting to feed rounds is the way they made the feed ramp. There's a little "step" between the ramp itself and the barrel. And why Sig would design it that way is beyond me. May take it somewhere to get the ramp polished and have that "step" taken out. Can see it being an ammo hog after that.

Thankfully, I bought it was a backyard plinker/target gun. So it jamming once in a while isn't a concern to me. I'm also feeding it Winchester white box. Believe CCI is a higher velocity, and that is the brand Sig recommends. May try to pick some of that up tomorrow as well. The gun also came with a guide rod spring for non-high velocity loads, so I'll be giving that a spin tomorrow too.

I'd be interested to know how that works out if you have it done.

Quite weird...seems everyone is struggling this year. We usually bag 2 or 3 on our small amount of land (80 acres) but we have only seen 2 or 3 this year, and haven't shot at one once.

Last year we could kill 3 does a day (can this year in the county next to us where our 5000acre hunting club is) for two weeks.  I killed 9 does last year and limited out on bucks as well.  12 rounds fired, 12 deer dead ;).  I'm only 1 for 1 this year :(

About the same as any other hunting I would think.  Shouldn't really have much of an effect since coyotes are very abundant around here.
