Title: ENY changes?
Post by: stodd on November 28, 2009, 05:56:47 PM
I am still trying to figure how the 109G14 and 190a8 have the same ENY value of 25. I would think that the 109g14 would be a bit lower.

And, to my utter surprise, the G14's ENY went up...

G14 didnt need to go up, did the K4 stay the same? maybe it should have gone down to make it balanced :salute

Is their a set way that determines the ENY value of a plane? Im just trying to figure out how these two planes are considered the "same".

No, there is not. And I really doubt there will ever be one, as many factors come into play that often can't be judged/compared without subjective interpretation.

Also keep in mind the ENY rating servers two different purposes: Determining perk point gain as well as a gameplay balancer via ENY limiter.

On topic: Before ENY update G14 and K4 had the same ENY (20), but I was expecting to see the K4'S ENY going down rather than the G14's going up...

Also keep in mind that we have several dozen planes and only 9 eny categories (5, 8, 10, etc.).  So within any given category you could have a fairly wide spread of capabilities.

Well, they are considered the same as far as ENY goes, but for very different reasons. While the G14 is certainly the much better overall fighter with good to very good performance in all areas, while the A8 is more of a specialist that is extremely effective in certain areas, and weak in others. Like a Swiss army knife vs. a sledgehammer...

The only real fix for ENY is to scrap it altogether

And your alternative for A) perk point gain determination and B) arena balancing would be what?

Keeping in mind that it got its name before the balancing system came out (and was used only to determine perks awarded), I believe it stands for "Enemy." Much like OBJ stands for "Object" and determines how many perks you get for destroying objects.

I think its funny people actually think ENY helps balance the arena.  Ive been playing MW for years and just recently started playing LW again and I dont see who ENY does anything.  I personally hardly fly planes that ENY would ever affect anyway and the same goes for most players in the MW arena.  HTC should perk the planes they feel give an unfair advantage if anything, it might force the HO-TARDS out there to actually learn how to fly.  I know they already perk some planes but that could be expanded.
