Hands down, to me is "My Cousin Vinny". The chemistry between Joe Pesci and Marissa Tomei and between Joe Pesci and Fred Gwynne (judge in the film and Herman Munster from the "The Munsters") can keep you in stitches laughing from all the sarcasm humor and the situational humor in the scenes.
Many great comedies out there and very hard to pick but my money will always be on Vinny.

In no particular order:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Airplane!
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
Spaceballs!
Men in Tights
-
gotta have the naked gun movies in there somewhere :x
-
Just a few that come to my mind:
The Apartment
Arsenic & Old Lace
Some Like It hot
One-Two-Three
The Miss Marple series with Margaret Rutherford (Yes, I rate those movies being more comedy than crime)
-
No love for "True Lies"? Possibly the greatest action-adventure-comedy ever made!
-
I put this in for best movie so it will have to be my favorite comedy

An Inconvenient Truth has to be the funniest movie ever I mean I laughed all the way through it and probably always will! I predict a cult following of epic proportions! :D
-
much love to Mel Brooks, and maybe it's my age (36) but "Airplane" is the best of the parody movies out ever. I liked a few Wayens brother movies, but they really started mailing it in after the first scary movie.
But in the bigger picture, I think the funniest movie I have ever seen was "Operation Petticoat" with Carey Grant and Tony Curtis.

While back browsed the American Film Institute's lists -- not the most recent ones, but the ones around the turn of the century. Tried the "Court Jester", a Danny Kaye movie that turned out to be a real gem.
If you're into silliness and word play, pretty hard to beat. Just don't get scared at the musical number that opens the movie - I almost gave up, then and there, which would've been a big mistake.
Poisoned cup sets off a riff of stuff like "Is it the chalice with the palace or the vessel with the pestle?" Later clutzy Kaye is hypnotized into thinking he's the worlds greatest swordsman, but the effect toggles off and on when anyone snaps their fingers...you can imagine the fun they have with that. And early on there's what has to be one of films' greatest one liners, set up by a scam where his companion pretends to be deaf mute. Won't spoil it.
Its old school, but if you don't mind its got some great laughs

Kingpin
"we don't have a cow, we have a bull though." :rofl
-
If you havent seen them, i highly recommend the movies that The Beatles made, especially A Hard Days Night and HELP! I had to watch them a few times to completely understand what they were saying because im not English, but they are really funny. :aok

Wow! Somebody remembers that. My parents hauled me along to see it in the theater when it was new. From then on I referred to it as the pink submarine movie. Good classic flick.
-
Dr. Strangelove
Dumb and Dumber
Super Troopers
...would be my top 3
-
Am I the first to mention the Pink Panther series?
The Pink Panther strikes again would be of choice....

"Every man -including the old hag- for himself!"
-"And may the best man win."
"Except you lady. May you just Drop Dead!"
Always loved that movie. So many funny people. Ethel Merman is hilarious!!! Johanathan Winters, Phil Silvers, Terry Thomas and Dick Shawn are a riot too. Great family movie.
Love Jim Backus: "I'm gonna make an Old Fashioned the way dear old dad used to." :rofl
-
I always enjoy the Mel Brooks films too. He's a master of comedy.
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
History of the World Part I
Spaceballs!
Men in Tights
If you see this movie on the channel guide, go ahead and record this too. "Hallelujah Trail" starring Burt Lancaster, Lee Remick, Donald Pleasance, Brian Keith and Martin Landau as Chief Walks-Stooped-Over. This comedy western was probably the first to incorporate several story lines into a grand finale. It's a movie about 3 seperate groups trying to get their hands on a wagon train of whiskey. Gold miners, women's lib, and Indians each with different reasons to grab the fire water.
All the movies that Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor did together.
No list could be complete without Jake and Elwood Blues. Those cats were on a mission from God. Great soundtrack with the most cameos of the musical world's greatest musicians and singers. Plus, many more famous people at the time with cameos including one that was uncredited. Anybody know who was the county clerk at the end of the film that was out for lunch? Hint : he was at the time an up and coming film director.
-
Blazing Saddles
Porky's
Clerks
Animal House
Caddy Shack
Stir Crazy
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
-
Being there.
-
Beer Leauge, I laughed so many times from that movie, I know all of you guys would do the same.

LoL! Best line from HELP was when Ringo said... "I thought she was a sandwich."
Still makes me laugh. :D

Jim Carrey is today's version of Jerry Lewis!
the guy is great!
"four rooms" a Quentin Tarantino movie is also quit funny.
-
Dumb and Dumber for me. No Doubt. Its the standard I compare with every comedy I see.
"Austria? Well then, G'day Mate! Hahaha".
It was at that point where I knew I was in for something epic.
Other Great Quotes:
1. "I got robbed by a sweet ole lady on a motorized cart!"
2. "Whats the matter Harry? Some little philly break your heart?"
"No it was a girl"
3.(after eating an atomic pepper)
"Its not so bad. Its more tingly than hot. BUWAHHHH!!!"
4. "We landed on the Moon!"

"The town is back 'that' way" :cry

One of the few movies that made me lose my breath with uncontrollable laughing.
Theres something about Mary.
I thought it was gonna be a chick flick------WRONG!
Too many funny scenes to count.
In the bathroom with "franks and beans".
The "itty bitty" doggie "makin all that noise" in the other bathroom.
Jumpstarting the heart of the dead dog with a broken lamp cord.(he caught on fire too!)
The infamous hair gel scene.
Awesome movie.
The 1st 10 minutes of Super Troopers is also some of the funniest stuff ever.
And of course the immortal Monty Python and the Holy Grail----pure genius.
-
How about Duck Soup? The Marx Brothers at their best....
"Dey got guns, we got guns, all God's chillin got guns..."
Don't forget Amimal Crackers, A Night at the Opera and many others. Anything with W.C. Fields. Anything by Mel Brooks.
There is no "best", but there are so many that rank at the top.
My regards,
Widewing
