I like weird and wonderful markings, the Tiffie in AH2 will undoubtedly sport many examples of different ID stripes just as it did in RL. As well as the standard yellow and night/white wing stripes carried by all Tiffies by the end of 1942, during Operation Spartan in the spring of 1943 the 'Eastland' forces were further identified by broad white markings on each side of the forward fuselage, and the whole of the underside of the port wing over painted in Night distemper.
WIP here, still some fine tuning to be done as all the sharp-eyed ones among us will notice.
Typhoon Ib DN334, coded HF-D, of No. 183 Sqn. RAF, Cranfield, early March, 1943.

Did that actually see active combat missions in that scheme? Wasn't it just for an exercise for 2TAF?
-
Your Typhoon skins are beautiful Jacko! Dam this one scheme is super funky.

*bump*
<-- wondering the same thing

lets hope it did. even if it was scrambled at night to investigate a giant submarine eating squid out over the north sea in the middle of winter and found nothing but water.

I would much rather have skins that actually saw service in a wartime environment (saw real action).
Not training units.
Not state-side units.
Not units that never flew into combat under a certain paint scheme.
We have certain precedents for skins being accepted into the game.

Looks great! :aok

Dont get me wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jocko knows that, so there's not really any point in reminding everyone who skins.

It was a response to Bruv, who (as far as I recall?) doesn't skin. Point taken, though.

Ok, been talking with Skuzzy and this one is a no-go as pointed out. Starkey would be ok as the operation was flown over enemy territory but Spartan was not.
On to Plan B:
Typhoon Ib R8781, coded SA-H of No. 486 Sqn, RNZAF, Tangmere, early December 1942. Flown by Sgt. K. G. Taylor-Cannon. <----- (good name for a bloke driving a 4x Hispano buzz saw... :t)

Standard day fighter scheme with type i, ii, and iii nationality markings, and early style special Typhoon ID markings of white cowling and spinner, yellow chord-wise stripes on upper surface of wings, and 4 12" chord-wise black stripes on underside of wings. After December 19, 1942 the gaps between the black stripes were painted white, like the Spartan skin above.

After your comment on the buzz-saw bit, seeing the white intake, it pops into my head that the plane is making "eeeeeeeeeew-pewpewpew!" sounds with it's mouth (intake) while flying....
:rofl :rofl :rofl
