snow blowers. anyone ever dealt with them? the one i'm looking at has no labels on the engine, and calling troybuilt gets me a "it might be an MTD engine on there.
it's not that big.....12 horse. it says overhead valve. i've never dealt with troybuilt before though. i'd like to hacve something with a briggs or tecumseh(i know they're closing), but if it's reliable, i'll still try it.

ive heard alot of good things about troybuilt machines, little bit more money than others but there quality from what ive heard is very good and they last, they also make a tiller and hvy brush mowers, if i needed one and had the cash id go that route

Don't know much about the snowblowers, we don't have much call for them here, but their tillers were top of the line. Yes I'm biased, I use to work for a Troybuilt dealer. Sure wish I had one of their pony tillers now.
Sounds like the Troybuilt tech line people don't know what they're talking about. The last time I checked MTD didn't make engines. Most likely it is a Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, or Tecumseh. If you can get a pic of the engine I might be able to identify it for you.

all my lawn equipment is Troy Built. I have had no problems except with the 4 cycle weed wacker, cant seem to be able to keep it running. The rest however has operated perfect.

Having problems with the head not spinning?
There was a design flaw with them. Where the shaft separates there is a place where the cable inside separates also (quick detach?) What has happened is that the key doesnt go into the keyway far enough and the end of the key eventually gets rounded off. Cut an inch or so off the shaft, just enough where the key fits into the keyway all the way.

They were excellent machines in the past. Now they suffer from the same problem as the rest. Reliability.

Troybilt tillers and mowers have been pretty good to me and my family in the past.

i couldn't get by the store to get a pic of the engine...but i think i'm gonna grab it. i'm too effin old to shovel snow, and i have a gut feeling we're gonna get it here in nj this year......

Looks like Troy-Bilt is now owned by MTD along with a whole bunch of big names in the lawn care industry.

Not sure what to make of that. When I worked on Troy-bilts they were a privately owned company out of Troy NY they had a lifetime guarantee on the transmission in their tillers. They honored it too.
MTD never had a real good reputation at the shop I worked at. Their mowers were the el cheapo's you picked up at Kmart.
Also the MTD engine is made in China and branded with the MTD name from what I have been able to find out on the net.

No, I need Cap's mechancical skill. It wont stay running. When I squeeze the gas it stalls. It will idle but won't run at full speed. I changed the S plug but there are little adjustmants that I see to be made.

I CAN try, although i don't have much experience with 2 stroke engines. i assume it's 2 stroke?
first off, check all of your basics. check the air filter, and i think some os these things have a screen or baffle on the exhaust side that can clog? check both. if it can't breath, it can't run.
if it's a 2 stroke, there should be some sort of pressure line to the fuel tank. make sure that's good. check the feed line to the carb. to be sure there's no air leaks. this'll drive ya nuts. i know, 'cause i had this with one of the 2 strokes on one of my models.
now....when you throttle it....does it stall no matter how you throttle it? snap it open? open it very slowly?
if it doesn't backfire, try this to get an idea of where to look. take the air filter off. wear safety goggles, BTW. use carb clean. as you throttle it in the manner that causes it to stall, give a quick squirt of carb clean in the carb. if it doesn't stall now, then look for the cause of the lean out. it could also be a carb. problem.......but that's some basics you can check.

there's an accelerator pump of some sort in the carb too then. the other basic stuff still applies though. how old is it?
