Well, my PC's mobo is FUBAR atm. (wow I just wrote half a sentence using nothing but acronyms :huh) So, my mom asked me to put our hp machine that became my PC back together, I got it all hooked up now :) but it won't boot into Vista and when I get into the XP login screen my mouse will not work. I can't go and change any BIOS settings because, like I said, I am using the hp stuff and no longer have all my tools and goodies to work with. Do you guys know anything I could do to potentially fix this? Or do I need to get a new hard drive altogether?

Ruler, slowly back away from the computer with your hands up.

Let's start at the beginning... Does the keyboard work?

If you put it together using parts from different computers you need to boot it from CD and reinstall the operating system.

^Bingo.
The HDD has memory of components that are not in it any more.

Keyboard works, XP works, Vista will not boot, big surprise there, lol. I wonder if going into my C drive and deleteing my old hardware stuff would fix that.

Booting Vista again from a DVD and choosing it to fix the installation would fix that. You can't manually delete 'hardware stuff' from your c: drive without causing damage somewhere.

If you have nothing to lose, just wipe the drive and start fresh.
