Hello everyone, I tried to make a movie about the 229IAD which is the regiment I flew for in the scenario Red Storm / Krupp Steel. So this is a tribute to everyone who flew in it and in particular to my regiment comrades.  :salute

about the movie:
I'm quite satisfied about it because it's my 1st AH movie and I didn't think it would have came out so nicely -thanks to the camerashots tutorial by fulmar <S!>-  Although I had tried to use FC express to add some video FXs, I ended up using that crap of iMovie (I've never used a serious video editing program). So I'm planning about learning some more advanced stuff when I have time, expect an edited version in a far future...


I had to split it into 2 parts of 5 minutes each due to file size's limits on the hosting server.

data:
acquisition: Fraps - free version
length: 10'43''
file extension: .MOV
compression: H264 - AAC  @ 720 x 540
size: ~240MB  ( 118MB + 109MB)

Don't expect one of those Kermit - style movies, nothing about big war and frightening war's soundtracks - I've put in songs by randomized choice.
I apologize if the 2nd part is a bit "ladderish" because I forgot to turn AA ON while acquiring with Fraps.

well... it really must suck then ...  :uhoh

I assume you use the film viewer to view full screen and used Fraps to capture from there.

What did you use to go from Fraps to .mov file, and what settings did you use to make the .mov file (such as bitrate, resolution, etc.)?

no, I set the AH film viewer to 1024 x 768, so the Fraps .AVI is 1024 x 768 at 30 fps (that's what I've chosen). Then I boot in OSX (iMac dweeb) and with quicktime I exported them into .mov to make iMovie read them. The .mov files before entering iMovie are H264 at 1024x768 (cant remember the bitrate I think it's H264 standard -high quality- one).
After the editing I exported them in .m4v at 720 x 578 - (DVD?)   but the final file was too large for the server, so I opened Quicktime and just splut them and it saved them in .mov at a 2100 and 3000ish kbit/sec.    

Yes, it's a mess. Dont ask me about those codecs and such... I dont know anything. iMovie = spitfire XVI = easymode

Thanks for the info.  The resolution looks good, and one of these days I'd like to try making a movie, so I am always curious about the details.

Bravo!  Great use of camera angles.  I enjoyed every second of it, and wanted more when it was over.
I did laugh with you during the arena settings part being turned on.   :lol
Very nice job capturing the action scenes in a superb way, for what you accomplished is an extremely tough task.

Thank you Gentlemen, I'm glad you liked it.
Is there anything I may improve, or that u didn't like in the movie? Now I need a no mercy criticism  ;)

For you uber video makers:
I hope to see more basic filmed tutorials in the future on how to make special video effects with some tips on how to add sounds and edit them too. Let's re-visit Hollywood on AH  :cheers:

great film chewi! 

It perfectly portrayed the systematic destruction of krupp steel.  Funky music choices and an all round classy production.

I really like these films Chewi, but I gave up on trying to merge them together.  They're in mov. format and WMM don't like that. 
So I just put them back to back in WMP. 
If you have any tips on how to put them together, please PM me.
